Sonic CD 2?

I was wondering whether there were ever any plans to make a Sonic CD 2 and maybe continue with the time-travel theme or even take the series in another creative direction.

Sonic CD IMO, was supposed to be the SCD's killer app, and increase the popularity of the console just as the original Sonic did for Genesis. Even though its one of the, if not the best-selling SCD game worldwide, sales were disappointing worldwide so that didn't happen. With the Japanese Saturn and U.S 32X being released a little over a year (November 1994) after Sonic CD was released (September 1993), all of Sega's focus went into both consoles......at least the 32X for like a couple of months. Sega CD was the odd console out by '95, until it was simultaneously cancelled along with the 32X.
