The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.

Almost all video game systems are capable of RGB output via SCART, a cable standard widely available in Europe. All you need to do is to order a SCART cable for your console at ebay.co.uk and hook it up to your component or HDMI converter.
Going RGB allows for the best possible picture quality (think of arcade machines, VGA computer monitors or Amiga 500 monitors). It does not automatically get rid of the lag issue though.

A bit off topic, but I have a Vizio as well. I use the X360 with a VGA connection (no lag). I use the Dreamcast with a VGA to HDMI converter (no perceptible lag). Very ironic(my Vizio does not like what the Dreamcast outputs)
Still looking for a suitable Scart to HDMI solution under $100 with *confirmed* no latency issues and real 240p support (with up-conversion obviously).

!!!!STOP!!!!
Video Newbies like myself/People who are reading the hype about RGB->Component all over the net: Do NOT..I repeat, DO NOT buy a CSY2100 (or clones like CVS2087 etc) RGB to Component transcoder BEFORE READING THIS!
I have wasted money on numerous SCART cables and on one of these god damn RGB to Component transcoder devices that everyone seems to rave on about without getting the facts straight!
Everywhere I read it's the same old story: "OH the CSY2100 is awesome! RGB is such great quality! Just plug in the SCART cable to the console and use component and away you go!" OH Give me a break!
But no one told me, or anyone else for that matter, that your LCD HDTV needs to be able to upscale 240p!!!!
I bought a CVS2087 (a CSY2100 clone) off eBay and was misled by the eBay seller saying how "ready it was to convert RGB SCART to RGB Component" and how ready it was for a Sega/retro console. But the seller didn't say inform me properly that the device doesn't work with an LCD HDTV!
So what were my symptoms?
I plugged it all in to my CVS2087, a PAL mega drive with 60hz mod RGB SCART cable, and a Samsung LCD HDTV with component RGB and a screen size > 40", and all I got was "Mode unsupported".
"Hmm. Maybe my Sega Mega drive is broken in 60hz?" I switch it over to 50hz. SUCCESS! I can see something, but in crap 50hz mode? I want this to work in 60hz!
"Great, maybe it's my TV?" I then tried the same setup on a 32" LCD TV.
"Invalid Signal"..on both 50/60hz.
"Maybe it's my SCART cable?"..I go grab my NES and try that with it's own composite to RGB SCART cable. Same symptoms as above EXCEPT I get no signal at all on both TV's.
"Great! My CSY2100 clone is broken!?".
*google on the net*
*2 hours later*.
HUH?. You mean to tell me that I need to now buy an upscaler if I want to use SCART
on an Australian PAL LCD HDTV with component only?!. I just forked out $80 on a CSY2100 clone cause everyone on the net was raving on about it!
My shi$$y CSY2100 clone is absolutely useless now! Only if I want to use it on a shi$$y CRT TV?! But I have two LCD TV's, come on!? Why didn't someone say this?!
I am so mad, I read articles such as this one "http://www.retro-otaku.com/2010/07/getting-component-video-out-of-a-sega-mega-drive-works-for-other-rgb-signals-as-well/" telling everyone how great the CSY2100 is! Give me a break!
I'm telling you this because I don't want you to make the same mistake I did! If you have a CRT TV with component then it will work. But because the old consoles output 240p, the LCD HDTV's do not automatically upscale to 480 or 720. Instead they tell me "invalid signal", in other words: "sorry, sucker you wasted your money!"

Strong first post.
You might wanna check out this bad boy then:

It'll upscale your Megadrive's output from 240p to 720p through HDMI, making your LCD TV accept the signal without any problems. I'm saving for one.
Are you telling me that there are HDTVs that introduce lag on the HD inputs???????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????
If so... why hasn't the world chastised the living fuck out of TV manufacturers by boycotting their products for years until they wake up and produce something worth a hill of shit
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. Blame the public for this... if it wasn't for them being so stupid when it comes to quality products, we'd have better made tvs available.
I'm waiting for a new LCD TV to arrive, I assume that it'll play my MD through its scart socket? If not it'll have to go back, what use is it to anyone if it won't play games on a piece of equipment over 20 years old?
I further assumed (logically) that a Panasonic TV would work? Don't care if it's in HD or not, but it has to play!
Apparently so! My coworker bought a Vizio HDTV and has his Xbox360 hooked up using HDMI, and he says the lag is pretty bad. Apparently component cables made it worse
I told him I'd research the problem for him, and came up with the following:
-Vizio's can be notorious for lag
-Nothing anyone said as a solution helped
I'm pretty damn thankful my Vizio's as awesome as it is. Another friend (well, a friend of a friend) has a Vizio, and there's no noticeable lag problems with it either. If it only accepted 240p signals through component, I'd say I have the perfect HDTV.
