Default A problem: good games but bad memories

I am having some problems lately. I am interested in some games that unfortunately also remind me of people I dislike highly who were interested in the same games. Its a long story but now I am afraid to get these games for fear of bringing back bad memories. Should I just ditch them or is there a way around it?

You should try not to associate the games with the bad memories. It's not their fault if they're also enjoyed by somebody you don't like so much. The games are neutral and if you like them you should be able to enjoy them for what they are without being concerned about what others think.

But since I don't know the whole story, if it really truly upsets you then you're not going to enjoy playing the games anyway so you shouldn't.

There is totally a way around it: disassociation. Or you can say that those games are just much too good to be wasted on them

For a while, I couldn't play a couple of my favorite games because I was really into them when my dad died. Eventually I just got over it and started playing them again.

Just play the heck out of them and make new memories. You'll get over it. Good games tend to have the "forgiveness factor" to them. That was my case with some great 2D fighters. The Mortal Kombat series early on, and now Street Fighter. American football titles, on the other hand, I'm afraid I shall forever fondly hate them.
