I can vouch for that, it's loads of fun and one of the few reasons to still fire my Wii up.

That is how I see the Wii as well. There are a bunch of titles I'd love to play, but it would take away time from the games on my PC, PS3 and 360, that I'd rather play.
I started to get a negative view of Nintendo's consoles when I'd bought the N64, but I stuck it out and bought a Gamecube when it came out. I had fun with those consoles, but it seemed like they collected dust for months on end, before another title I wanted to play came out. I played the Playstation and Saturn a lot more than the N64, and the PS2 and Xbox a lot more than the Gamecube. The N64 and Gamecube were almost dead the first year of their existance, and the Wii seemed to fall into that cycle as well.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."
My simplified feelings on the last three Nintendo consoles and the DS:
N64 is overrated.
Gamecube is slightly underrated.
Wii opened up the industry to a wider audience but isn't for everybody.
As for the DS you can say what you want but it's got a solid library.
Now that we've seen how expensive the 3DS is and how terrible the battery life is going to be and that you can't play it while charging however, Nintendo can go screw themselves.
I've looked into it a bit more and it's unknown if you can play it while charging or not. What is known is that it's going to be pretty hard to play it while charging if you can.

Instead of using the traditional plug it's going to charge via a charging dock. I don't know what they're thinking.
The cradle is in addition to the AC adapter they're including... Not sure how you missed that.
To be honest though, I'm disappointed with the battery life as well. 3-5 hours isn't bad, I've learned to live with that thanks to the PSP, and not having to BUY batteries has certainly changed what's acceptable, but I'm just used to 8+ hours. Still hoping that turning things like Wifi and the streetpass mode off will extend things.
Of course, the point of the cradle is to just set it up and leave your 3DS in it overnight so you're never on low battery.
And has the price been set for the US? I don't think so, unless you have some info that I don't. $300 might be the adjusted amount in Japan, but they're current DS games sell for an adjusted $50 here, so I'm not convinced at all that we're going to pay $300.
My prediction: $230-$250.

I'm honestly a bit disappointed with the launch titles, at least for Japan. All the games I'm interested in don't come out until the second and third waves.

Hopefully the US gets a better selection.
The point why N64 was great its logically because of forever-classics such as Mario 64 and Zelda 64, not to mention other classics. Of course this system its not overrated, it had the recognition it deserved, unfortunately did not have full support from developers, it was known as difficult to program a game for.
iPad 2, 32GB Black.
Good to know there will be a normal AC adapter with the 3DS. It alleviates some of my worries but the battery life is still kind of lousy unfortunately.
Well, it's a little less than previous DS systems, but about the same as a PSP.
I usually use them at home anyway, and never longer than a couple of hours when I'm out and about.
I don't see the problem. Having this fancy new technology means having to make compromises.
About the N64: I don't think it's overrated, just that it has aged badly due to 3D graphics being in their infancy when it came out. The same holds true for the PS1 and Saturn, although those systems have a lot more 2D games. The N64 has about three of them and even those look absolutely horrible.

I don't really like the PS1 much either and yes, it has a lot to do with it being the early days of 3D.
N64 is only overrated to me because what supposedly made its games so great never really clicked with me. I didn't like Zelda's jump to 3D like everyone else for some reason. I thought Goldeneye was just so-so compared to the FPS games I was already used to playing on PC. Mario 64 impressed me technically when I first played it but I never got into 3D platformers at all which were one of the main draws of the N64.
So it's overrated to me personally. Just my own opinion forged by my personal tastes.
I was mostly a PC gamer during that generation.
