Sonic Lists of Fury: 10 Best Genesis Easter Eggs

Easter eggs, special secrets hidden in video games by the developers, have been with us since the Atari 2600. As time went on, however, game creators got more and more imaginative with their special little gifts. The Genesis was no exception, and we've compiled ten of the best in one handy list for you. Read the latest installment of our Lists of Fury series and see what you may have been missing for all these years!

The "Okay, Right?" code in the Genesis version of Primal Rage's cheat menu (it's not in 32X or any other version of PR's cheat menus.) actually does something contrary to common belief.

Activate the code, start the game and select Diablo. When you start the level up Diablo's followers will be replaced with a devil with the head of one of the developers.

To access it, press start to get past the title screen. On the menu after this enter the following series of rights, lefts, and ups:
    L, U, R, R, U, L, R, R, L, L, U

You should get a new menu option to appear called "Extra Options" and the "Okay, right? Option should be there.

    Here's some screenshots:

The devil will also change colors depending upon the pallete Diablo currently has (you can select an alternate pallete for any character by pressing and holding one of the controller buttons. Each character has three alternate palletes)

Regardless if Diablo wins or loses a match, the devil will just jump up and down. Apparently, the head on the devil is again of Fergus McGovern.

Steve Snake (Yes, the same dude who made Kega Fusion.) Also appears in NBA Jam as a secret character iirc. He's just listed as "Snake" in the game. It's one of the games he ported to the Genesis back in the day.

Great article. It was cool to be reminded of the Fresh Prince in Jam and the Fergality from MKII. And I honestly never knew about the S&K one involving Sonic "bowing" to Knuckles. I might have done it plenty of times, but never realised it was because of that specific motion. I now have to do it knowing what it does...

Don't forget the secret arena level in Contra: Hard Corps. After you beat the spinning robot in the junkyard stage, and go down the ramp, there is a wall you can climb up through the top of the screen. A few more screens of wall climbing and you'll come to another doorway that leads to an arena style level where you'll fight several weird bosses and get a funny ending.

Awesome article, although it makes me feel very ignorant about the Mega Drive

About Zero Tolerance easter egg - the password is not BOXING, but Boxing!!!. Works perfectly for me. And you fight the last boss of the game, not the first one.

Well I actually learned some things and that's a good thing.

I too thought Knuckles just did the wave randomly I didn't realize ducking was what did it.

Melf, both me and Nunzio wrote that article. Nunzio did most of the work, but I wrote five of those games (Zero Tolerance, Aladdin, Sonic & Knuckles, Pitfall, Mortal Kombat II).

@Orchid: I tried ALOT of combos, I didn't think of using exclamation marks though. Thanks for the correction!
