GameFAQs rejected this cheat submit, probably because it's just too unbelievable.
So I guess they will get flooded with submits now that I am posting this to the public.
And I will once again not receive the credit! Great.
(This same thing happened a while back with the Metroid "NARPASSWORD"
that gived you infinite helath and missiles, as well as all items.
The bastards... The bloody bastards!)
So here we go;
NBA Jam Tournament Edition
SNES & Genesis
Secret Player: Stud Muffin
This secret player requires a special extra step before he can be used.
No other secret players require such a thing.
At the first "Licensed by ..." screen,
(this will be the very first screen displayed on SNES, and the first screen after the Sega logo on Genesis)
push and hold the following button combination:
Left + L + R (SNES)
Left + Start + C (Genesis)
You will NOT receive any confirmation that the cheat has been activated.
So press and release the buttons a few times if you have to, just to get it right.
With this done, go to the "enter initials" screen and enter the following:
Highlight "G", hold Start, press A.
Highlight space, hold Start, press A.
Highlight "F", hold Start, press Y (SNES) or C (Genesis).
If all steps where done properly, you will get the standard "Secret Player" message.
And you will see it is "Stud Muffin" once you get to the team select. He's an interesting looking fellow;
looks a bit old, wears glasses. I imagine he looks a bit like Mr. Rogers or Orville Redenbacher.
For whatever reason, he looks very familiar, but I could never make sense of who it is.
Now that you have played as the elusive Stud Muffin, reset the game and try entering the initials cheat
without first enabling it on the "Licensed by ..." screen. Surprise! It will not work.
Stud Muffin is actually 'protected' by this activation cheat. If you enter the intials correctly,
but have not first activated his use, the program code that handles secret characters will reject him. Strange.
As a side note, Steven Tyler (lead singer for Aerosmith) exists as a secret player,
as well. The problem is that he cannot be used without hacking (his initials were REMOVED)
and he doesn't actually have a picture. It just says "Steven Tyler" where you would see his face.
(And of course, the name below.) Additionally, Steven Tyler and Stud Muffin also exist int he 32X version.
Only this time, both player's initials have been removed. [Note that when I say "removed" I mean the initials
have been replaced with invalid characters. It is still possible to hack the games by replacing the invalid characters
with usable letters. But that's for a different post.)
That's it for NBA Jam (for now). Later on, I might get into some of the really
interesting Lost Cheats. Like a "debug mode" on one game similar to what
you'll find in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. And all this stuff without cheat devices! Yay. ;D
