Playing as Roo in SOR3 is fun, but I like playing Shiva better. To play as Shiva, hold down the B button after you defeat him as the level is ending. Do not let go until the next level is started. Now when you die you can play as Shiva!

He doesn't have as many moves as the others, but his are stronger. He has an unblockable kick (Y button) and a punch where he holds the bad guy so they can't get away! Keep pushing the Z button and you will keep punching them in the head until they die (though it actually looks like you are give them a "noogie").

Has somebody already started an easter egg thread?
In the Japanese version (Bare Knuckle III) you could also hold A to play as a miniboss that was removed from the US version of the game. Ash. Ash is a homosexual stereotype but is very powerful. He lacks the reach of Shiva but makes up for it in a devastating slap combo and fast speed. He also has a back attack with a very long reach.

You can play as him in the US version via a Game Genie code too.

MOAR Easter eggs (& guest appearances, references etc. I guess):

*The lamp level in Aladdin shows a Mega Drive.
*The Godzilla level in one of The Simpsons games (Bart's Nightmare I think) where you climb a building, there is a kid throwing a SNES on you.
*In Devil Crash MD you can play some tracks of some other Tecnosoft games.
*Phantasy Star IV has some references to the Game Gear, Sonic and Ecco in the game.
*Soleil has Sonic sitting on the beach.
*Pier Solar has a million Easter eggs .
*Beggar Prince has an "All your base..." reference.
*Legend of Wukong has some Yogi Bear reference.
*Wiz 'n' Liz has many references to other Psygnosis games.
*In Shining in the Darkness, the dwarf from Golden Axe runs a shop.
*Snatcher has some Konami characters on a strip club.
*Alien Soldier shares one boss and one tune with Gunstar Heroes.
*Mega Turrican has Mario and Sonic hidden in the graphics (only hackers can see them, I think).
*Zombies has a developer's den level.
*Langrisser II has a guest appearance by some Cho Aniki characters, which are in a hidden battle and may become a summon after that.
*Monster World IV has a small reference to what happened to the hero of the previous Monster World game, Shion.
*Vectorman has some levels named after popular songs (Staying Alive, Twist and Shout for example).
*Revenge of Shinobi has many bosses and enemies taken from popular movies and comics at the time.

Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side has several easter eggs. The Debug mode cheat code's directions and buttons spell out YABBA DABBA DUUZZY

Senator's stage has two Easter Eggs. See if you can spot them:

And yes, I know this gif is huge. I apologize.

If you didn't find them here they are:
There's a man jogging to McDonalds in the background along with two CIA agents. This is Bill Clinton. He was known to jog to McDonalds IRL. The other easter egg may actually just be a bad drawing but if you look closely at the yellow street sign, you'll see what looks like a silhouette of Sonic on it.

The next easter egg is just amazing, and not very known..
the only reason i know of it is because i found it on a cheat site,
i sadly forgot who posted it but he/she has my thanks since its amazing.

The game is NBA Jam TE.

Cheat Code to play as the super hidden character Studdmuffin.

I'll quote the original post since i kept it.

GameFAQs rejected this cheat submit, probably because it's just too unbelievable.
So I guess they will get flooded with submits now that I am posting this to the public.
And I will once again not receive the credit! Great.

(This same thing happened a while back with the Metroid "NARPASSWORD"
that gived you infinite helath and missiles, as well as all items.
    The bastards... The bloody bastards!)

    So here we go;

    NBA Jam Tournament Edition
    SNES & Genesis

    Secret Player: Stud Muffin

This secret player requires a special extra step before he can be used.
No other secret players require such a thing.
At the first "Licensed by ..." screen,
(this will be the very first screen displayed on SNES, and the first screen after the Sega logo on Genesis)
push and hold the following button combination:

    Left + L + R (SNES)

    Left + Start + C (Genesis)

You will NOT receive any confirmation that the cheat has been activated.
So press and release the buttons a few times if you have to, just to get it right.

With this done, go to the "enter initials" screen and enter the following:

Highlight "G", hold Start, press A.
Highlight space, hold Start, press A.
Highlight "F", hold Start, press Y (SNES) or C (Genesis).

If all steps where done properly, you will get the standard "Secret Player" message.
    And you will see it is "Stud Muffin" once you get to the team select. He's an interesting looking fellow;
looks a bit old, wears glasses. I imagine he looks a bit like Mr. Rogers or Orville Redenbacher.
For whatever reason, he looks very familiar, but I could never make sense of who it is.

Now that you have played as the elusive Stud Muffin, reset the game and try entering the initials cheat
without first enabling it on the "Licensed by ..." screen. Surprise! It will not work.
Stud Muffin is actually 'protected' by this activation cheat. If you enter the intials correctly,
but have not first activated his use, the program code that handles secret characters will reject him. Strange.

As a side note, Steven Tyler (lead singer for Aerosmith) exists as a secret player,
as well. The problem is that he cannot be used without hacking (his initials were REMOVED)
and he doesn't actually have a picture. It just says "Steven Tyler" where you would see his face.
(And of course, the name below.) Additionally, Steven Tyler and Stud Muffin also exist int he 32X version.
Only this time, both player's initials have been removed. [Note that when I say "removed" I mean the initials
have been replaced with invalid characters. It is still possible to hack the games by replacing the invalid characters
with usable letters. But that's for a different post.)

That's it for NBA Jam (for now). Later on, I might get into some of the really
interesting Lost Cheats. Like a "debug mode" on one game similar to what
you'll find in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. And all this stuff without cheat devices! Yay. ;D
and here are pics that i took with my own Genesis copy of the game.

    Some pics.

    Some more pics.

Once again, Steve Snake, the author of Kega Fusion emulator is in NBA Jam Tournament Edition. He helped with the game. I'm surprised nobody mentioned him previously other than me. He's just listed as Snake iirc.

I know it was super well known. I just found it surprising he wasn't mentioned on the site's article.

Well thats simple, they can only mention 1 secret player or it would become an article about NBA Jam's secret players,
so they opted for the much better known rapper gone tv actor gone movie actor then the programmer.

to me Steve Snake is the guy who wrote Kgen, and Kgen98 and Kega and who made the smashpack for DC,
but for a lot of people reading this site he's... well many probably don't even know that he programmed their favorite games.

Just because you and me know who he is doesn't make him popular enough to mention in the easter eggs article,
because there's a shitload of hidden characters in NBA Jam, so they picked one who everybody knows.

so you might say, but you just posted that studdmuffin guy, and to that i'd say :
"because he was super well hidden and until 2005?? nobody even knew he was in the rom."
And that makes it awesome, because he was never found when we actually played these games when they came out.

Tits, tits are good, I like Tits
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

Is that only available in the Japanese version? Or is there some way to get it in the North American release as well?

There's apparently some way to use the level skip cheat to access it in the North American version but I've never tried so I don't know.

in Aladdin, you can get extra life in a similar way to "mickey ears life". stand on the ledge before first camel, position Al so that when he looks right, left side of his head slightly overlaps with the window. you can't get life in the second level if you get it in the first.
