I picked Eternal Champions: Challenge From the Dark Side. Mainly because I'm very passionate about the series and enjoy playing it. In fact, if you actually manage to get past the high difficulty, steep learning curb, and the somewhat odd controls (trust me, the controls in the original game are far worse.), its a pretty solid title and could last you a very long time due to the amount of content within the game.

Definitely one of the games that takes good advantage of the Sega CD's extra space. You get 13 default characters, and like 11 unlockable characters which you can either unlock by accomplishing specific tasks during gameplay such as getting time overs in every round on Neophyte difficulty to unlock Senator for example, or using a cheat. (each secret has a special cheat code you can enter at the results screen after a match using controller 2.)
The game also saves the characters to your back up RAM so you don't need to unlock them again unless you delete your save data or it corrupts for some reason.

Most of the people who say EC sucks really haven't given the game a chance. Its not one of those titles that you can just pick up and play and be good at it right off the bat. The game forces you to actually learn the special moves of your character you want to play as before actually taking on story mode. That's really one of the factors that adds to making the game last for a while.

All came real close to making the list, Sonic CD came close to being left off. Don't do it Oldschool, its not as good as Sonic 1 even, let alone Sonic 2/3+K.

Sonic CD cant hold a candle to Sonic 2 or 3(alone or w/K).
I don't get all the negative talk surrounding the 32X&CD Sonic games... they both look amazing to me so ??? to all the discontent surrounding those titles.

They look like bigger and more colorful versions of the 4 Genny titles.

Useless considering Earthworm Jim HD is out... (4 player MP!!)

Sonic CD is very love it or hate it as you can see with the arguments in this thead. Depending on who you talk to it's either the best game in the series or the worst. If it's the one game you want the Sega CD for I really suggest you emulate it first and see if you even like it before you go through the trouble unless you just want a Sega CD for collection's sake anyway.

Knuckles Chaotix is the same way except I don't know many people who would call it the best.

Both of these games play and feel a little differently than your average Sonic game and that's where the trouble lies for a lot of people.

In regards to Sonic CD specifically it's more about exploration than speed. You can blitz through the levels if you want but you miss about 80% of the game that way.

I don't rate Sonic CD very high among the Sonic games, but I still think it's great. It's certainly one of the best SCD games - not the best, but in the top ten for certain.

I would say the same of part 3 & Sonic and Knuckles... they both feel HUGE to me compared to part 1... hell, part 2 feels like it has bigger levels than 1.

If S. CD & K. Chaotix are 'even' bigger... lol... HELL YEAH!!! That sounds amazing to me.

Piss on those who simply wanna 'run' through the maps in "blazing speed"... it's fun every once and a while, but as a 'way to play the game'... pff... that's stupid imo.

    Sonic

The Lunar Games are my all time favorite RPG's but as a hardcore Sonic fan I had to choose Sonic CD.

I voted Sonic CD, a classic.

Sonic CD isn't as great as the poll makes it look, it's just the lack of other games that leave some folks choosing Sonic CD by default. I'd have voted for Silpheed if it were available, for example.

Yeah, there aren't many contenders (also on the same caliber) as Sonic CD.

Sonic CD over Lunar 2? Are you guys insane?

Sonic CD is good, but hell - 1,2, and 3 are better in my opinion.
