Default PES 2011 VS. FIFA 2011?

I want some honest, objective opinions here if possible.

I just got PES for 30 bucks from Gamestop (10 if you count my trade-ins) and I am liking it a lot. Fifa was sitting right next to it for 60, but since most articles I read were mostly inconclusive regarding which was the better choice, does anyone here have an opinion? I have been to YouTube comment boxes and Gamefaqs and heard the arguments, but most of them sadly boil down to "FIFA? More like FAG-FA!" Or "PES? More like POS.....PIECE OF SHIT!" and haven't been very productive.

I am pretty new to soccer games that AREN'T Super Sidekicks...so far, it is playing really well even though I suck badly at it, and it largely resembles real, televised games in terms of presentation and fluidity. With no other realistic soccer game to compare it to, I just want to know if I am missing out on anything, or if PES is the real deal, and stands up to the near-monopoly EA has on most of their franchises.

FIFA was groundbreaking when it came out in 1993. The isometric viewpoint didn't add to the realism though, something which I discovered fairly early on. Before ISS on the SNES FIFA was the ultimate footy 'sim'. The quality did suffer considerably in early 3D FIFA titles, but with FIFA 98 EA Sports re-introduced millions of fans to their favourite simulated sport. ISS did gain steam again with the PS1 when it was renamed Winning Eleven and on the PS2 it was the de facto soccer franchise for several years, before EA Sports gained the upper hand again with FIFA 08 and I strongly believe FIFA is still the better annual rehash. PES/Winning Eleven has stagnated but remains a strong contender.

I guess if you're new to the sport FIFA is the logical choice.. Don't ask me why though I'm more into NHL these days :P Feel free to try demos of both games as they're readily available and offer a comprehensive glimpse of the gameplay.

The ISS and Pro Evolution series were always light years ahead from the FIFA games, from the 16bit days to the PS2 days. That changed about three years ago though.

The FIFA series have come a long way but nowadays are, by far, the better games. Konami is stuck in the past with the PES series and even though PES 11 tried to modernize the classic formula, it still is behind FIFA.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but if you’re buying a football (soccer) game nowadays it has to be FIFA. If you’re not interested in being up to date with the squads, go with FIFA 10 as it’s identical with FIFA 11 and you can find it cheaper.

I hate most realistic sports games, but I played PES 2009 on the Wii and that was pretty good.

    Less talk more action!

    Thank you for your feedback.

Since I already purchased FES before this, I was really trying to see if FIFA was also worth trying.

I think I am somewhat satisfied with PES for now, but am kind of wishing I had simply waited and forked out the extra 30 bucks for FIFA. At the same time, this is the first real soccer game I have played in years, and I have actually enjoyed it quite a bit so far.

You could always try the FIFA demo!

And I'm not particularly fond of cars or cars salespeople

I only played PES2011 on the PS2 and the 360 and FIFA 11 on the PS2.

At least on the PS2, PES2011 is better. And on the 360 and PS3 PES2011 there's classic Konami stuff!

Speaking of PES, I'm starting to notice that Konami is actually giving a shit about our country and the rest of Latin America. The Copa Libertadores mode features teams people would have expected to see on Winning Eleven/PES hacks/mods! It isn't just River Plate and Boca Juniors that are represented in football games anymore! (at least in Konami's case; EA still has those two teams representing our country)

Just see the list of Argentinian teams there
