My GF's Cantonese and lived in Hong Kong throughout her childhood so she's had quite a wide variety of influences living over there, from English stuff, Canton Pop and of course lots of obligatory J-Pop and Rock stuff, so we regularly have some Asian pop music playing. I'm not so keen on some of the modern Canton and Chinese pop though, its far too piano ballad based and a bit maudlin and over-sentimental for my own tastes.

Jap Indie Guitar Rock WOT I LIKE...

Cheesy Girl Band J-Pop at the peak of Japans mid-90's pop power. PUFFY AMI-YUMI. Disposable pop, but really accomplished with some great arrangements, one of my GF's childhood faves.

And I''l throw in some GOOD Canton stuff (realise the polls J Music but anyway)...

Faye Wong - Dreams (Cranberries Cover). Tried finding some of her more experimental stuff my GF's played me before but I can't read Chinese characters...

For the last 11 years or so I've been a big j-music afficianado and while I am familiar with most contemporary artists, I find the older j-music from 80s, 70s, and earlier to be among the best. Even the 'idol' artists of the 80s had some very eclectic sounds going on in their tracks, and there's always something unique and adventurous about j-music in general regardless of genre.
i myself like 80's idol singers, Seiko Matsuda and the like...

Yeah, Japanese singers in the 80's sang a lot better, especially the women.

    Less talk more action!
