    Default Trying to Connect..

    Hello all.

I purchased the model 2 Genesis and am trying to connect it to my TV. I've got the RWY (red white yellow) cables and tried using it first on a Sony HDTV. I was able to get to the "licensed by Sega" screen to come up but didn't get any further.

I then tried using it on a standard TV; same result. Just got the splash screen and nothing more.

I then tried using it on a smaller standard TV and it worked there.

If I used the RF plug would it be able to work on the other TVs?

Regardless of whether you are using composite cables or an RF adapter, it should work on all those TVs. Perhaps your game booted on the smaller TV by chance. Did you take out the cart and reinsert it again when you tried using the console on the first two TVs or did you just try it once? The TMSS screen will come up when you put a cart in but that won't necessarily mean the game is going to boot. It's one of those common matters where your game just won't boot the first time.

Sounds like a dirty cartridge connector, or maybe even just dirty pins on the cartridge you tried.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

    Hello,

Yes. I took the cartridge out and blew on it each time.

What you should do is get a q-tip and dampen it with a little bit of window cleaner and rub it on the connectors of the cartridge. Then wait for it to dry out and try it again. Also make sure that the Genesis cartridge slot is clean. I'm not sure how to clean it, but I'm sure there are plenty of guides on the internet on how to do so, if you need to.

Don't do that anymore, because the air from your mouth always contains spit, which causes rust on the connectors.

Just clean your cart slot thoroughly like NavesRegge said, then clean all the cartridges.
(and don't forget to clean every cart you end up getting in the future)

You should only have to do this once, so please.. stop blowing on them.

Yep...any new (used) games don't touch my slot w/o being cleaned first. These baby's are old and usually fairly dirty.

Hmm...wondering why your controller doesn't work...they're usually pretty bullet proof. You may just need to take it apart and clean the boards where the little carbon pads touch down when you push on a button.

I'll tinker around with it later. The only button that works is the down and start ones. Everything else doesn't respond.

About the controller, check the connector on the end, lots of rough plug/unplug can make the pins not contact on the inside.

Hope you get everything to work.

That is the worst thing that we can do to a Cartridge!

If i knew back in the early 90s, when i was 10 or 12, i would have never blew on my carts, because some of our spit comes out of each breath, and that will slowly corrode the contacts. I cant tell you how many games i passed over at Flea Markets because the contacts were dirty as hell.

Use a can of compressed air instead.

you need to start the Genesis holding down the start button WITHOUT a cartridge plugged in, then you'll boot into the dashboard. If you've got your Genesis connected to the internet via the megamodem then you'll be able to voice chat, play Vs games online and download demos. Once you're in the Sega dashboard plug a game cartridge in (blow the contacts first) navigate to the 'LOAD CARTRIDGE' button and press the A button on the controller. The game should start.

If you're still having problems let me know. I'm an expert at this.

I can get the carts to work but am still having issues with the controller.

I took it apart and can get the d-pad and button B working, but A and C are still not working. Not sure why; anyone know how to fix these?
