Folks, this is why PC gaming sucks now

It drives me nuts that a lot of games(usually the better ones at that) are digital only, no wonder PC gaming sucks.

Note: I'm not talking about MMOs mind you(It's ok for them to be digital only, especially since the MMOs that only have DLs, let you DL for free).

I mean really, do any of these developers even have a PC, if they do, they should realize what a bad idea it is. Tons of things go wrong with PCs on occasion, not to mention It's pretty common for programs such as games to get corrupted just for no ******* reason, which would force you to DL the game again. Also note, we aren't talking about wiiware/PSN exc prices either, they cost about as much as a console game(or a PC game that has a physical copy).

For a few years now, with the exception of 1 or 2 games, it seems like all the games I want are digital only.

Every RPG Maker past RPG maker 2 is digital only(why would anyone make such a complex program digital only, I don't know, can you imagine if PhotoShop was digital only, omg). ATLUS is publishing a new game for the 360, awesome, but oh crap I don't own a 360(sigh it looked like an awesome game too). However it seems like It's on the PC as well..., oh ****, It's digital only, not to mention it costs almost 50 bucks as well, damn it might as well be a 360 only game, what moron would pay full price for a DL, exc, exc, exc(it seems likes almost 50% of all the PC games being made, are going digital only, no matter how well the game would be expected to sell if they were to really publish it).

That's not what bugs me about PC games these days. What bugs me is the fact that it seems like the creators are inconsiderate of less powerful PCs such as laptops. I know for a fact, Starcraft II has to be played at lower graphical settings and shit for me to even get a semi decent framerate out of it. It sucks because even on the lowest available resolution I can't get the complete speed out of the game.

This is not 100% true, that's inteded by even the developers to be the case yes, but depending on how they set their site up there are multiple things that will screw that up.

Also in any case if the site ever goes down, you lose internet access or the company dies(which is very likely after running a business like that), you're screwed.

Yet games like Doom that were distributed Digitally are still available on their original sites and on new digital download platforms like Steam.

It's not like they are trying to steal money from you by making you pay every time you download the game. It sounds to me like you simply don't understand how the system works.

This isn't what I'm angry about, but rather the fact that they're trying to shift the norm of digital download pc games from 50 to 60. I was going to pick up Dead Space 2...but considering the short play time of the first I'm not sure Dead Space 2's multiplayer will be different enough to keep me interested.

I would much rather have my PC games on an online service provider to be honest, because I don't want a million boxes for all the games I currently own on Steam.

Of course iconic games like doom will always be around, because noone would ever let such a title/money maker disolve(however in any case, unless I'm mistaken, not a single doom game, is digital only), but most games would be gone for good.

And the chance of Valve going out of business is about the same as leprechauns coming out of my butt with rainbow sherbert. So yeah, and I doubt all the other companies that put games on Steam like Sega, Activision, Capcom, etc. would let their customers lose their digitally downloaded games.

I think Steam has been the best thing to happen to PC gaming in recent years. PC games have all but come back from the dead because of it.

If you think games are overpriced (wait and buy the games when they're on sale) or that having to download things is inconvenient then I have a hard time believing you've actually ever used Steam.

Agreed, I used to hate it but now I don't think I could live without it...so much so that I'm nearly unwilling to pick up the game any other way (EADM, D2D) I guess I'd get a retail copy if it had a steam key, but it would quickly become useless to me after that.
