I'm assuming 16-bit was being sarcastic given his last line.

Lol, the PS3 version of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 must be online to play. Considering that the game has no online play, requiring gamers to log in online is just ass. GG Capcom!

    THAT is bizarre.

I like to own my games if I buy them, without having to be online.

What really, that's strange for non PC games/ports(damn, It's a Capcom game too, I wouldn't be surprised to see EA pulling this kind of crap, but what the hell, Capcom why).

I hope they atleast have a big warning posted before DLing it. Boy that would suck to DL it just to find out you can't play it, unless connected to the internet.

As more and more people are getting connected, this will become more commonplace. It seems like the perfect way to weed out illegal copies.
Besides, everybody I know has broadband, so I don't see the problem.

It's also a good way to say you don't own any rights to X game(not talking about digital copies, as you don't own them anyway, but games in general), which includes(but not excluding other rights a consumer traditionally has) not even having the right to play the game in the future. No one with half a brain would pay anything close to what games generally cost today(so if companies start doing this crap on a regular basis, I hope they don't expect people to pay more then 10-15 for any such game, even if there's a phusical copy, any game that requires you to connect to the internet to play the single player/local multi player mode, Isn't worth more then 20, never mind the 50-60 bucks we pay today).

This would actually promote hacking/pirating, so don't let them try to use that as an excuse. The only reason companies are doing this crap(definitely the only reason Capcom is thinking about this path), is because they are anal about the 2nd hand market.

However what companies don't get, is the 2nd hand market only exists for #1 they stop making the game(and/or Isn't sold in X area), and 2 X companies put out more crappy games then not(Capcom most definitely doesn't need to worry about that), so people aren't willing to pay insane prices for what's almost surely gonna be a crappy game.

In Capcom's Case though, they should always keep their games in print, otherwise they have no right to cry about the 2nd market(because if they aren't selling items anymore, they're not losing money anyway).

I wonder if this decision had to do with what you had noted earlier in the thread? It would eliminate the ability to download the game on a friend's console, so they can play it for free.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

You're exactly right there. They're actually removing incentives to pay for games when pirate hackers can give you a better version of the game for free.

...or, it could be that you need to have an internet connection in the first place to install the game, and they're making the (mostly) justified decision that people - especially those with consoles built with the idea that they'll be connected via high-speed Internet - have broadband Internet connections. If it's only checking in when you start the game up, what's the problem?

I don't 'own' the games in my Steam library, or on my Xbox's download history, but - besides the fact that 'ownership' in this digital age could mean anything - I'm not going to get all spergy about whether I can play SimCity 4 after a nuclear apocalypse and the Valve & Microsoft servers are radioactive ash. Because I'm able to play them here and now, it's totally hassle-free, and to be frank I don't have any shits to give about harmless DRM like this.

(although I suppose in the event we go to DEFCON 1, I could back up the install files to my external HDD before the warheads hit. assuming the EMP doesn't fry the innards)

I believe you can download the game onto a thumbdrive and then transfer it over to your PS3. You could do that from another person's PC, if you didn't have a broadband connection.

I don't think you understand, It's not just a blank/go no where internet connection. The game will need to run a check with a website(which can be closed at any time, compare the longevity to XBOX live removing DLC), and that's if you're lucky, if they have you connect to a network, you are really screwed (hell, you can even lag while playing a single player game, not to mention other annoying BS).

But everyone you know is a very small part of the gaming community. Besides, it's not like Internet is free to be a requirement.

It just doesn't make sense that, to play a game, you have to pay (aside from the price of the game itself) for an internet connection too.
