    Default Another MD overclocking question

I've been tinkering around with a few mods on my MD and I would like some clarification..

I've been using this guide http://kyorune.com/modding/article.php?id=73, which seems to be the same guide that is reposted all over the net. Now the second image indicates that I should cut 2 traces on the CPU, pin15 and either pin 5 or 6 (the diagram is unclear). Which pin should I cut?

Also, I have the Signetics CPU, will the mod def not work on this chip? Can I use my own oscillator with this chip instead?

    Thanks

    Paul

You only cut one trace. Its the one that runs on pin 15. If you look closely at the picture they tell you to cut the trace but that is just coming from pin 15.
I am unsure you CPU. I have read that they will not over clock as reliably as a Motorola chip but you could just try it and see

ahh I see, the red circle is just indicating a decent place to cut the trace to pin15. doh

Has anybody ever successfully overclocked a Signetics?

    yes at 10mhz, several.

ok cool, I tried the 13mhz upgrade anyway and there are severe glitches and game crashes, but I'll get a 10mhz oscillator.

    Thanks for the advice

You shouldn't have any glitches or crashing at 10mhz.

I have - with 10 and 12 MHz oscillators. Both ran fine. I just severed pin 15 and left it slightly floating above the board while I soldered a clock signal wire to it. No problems yet.

The shorter the wires the better, many people have problems because they use too thick and too long wires.

Yeah I've read that and I'm using some pretty thin wire and its as short as it can be with where the solder points are.
I'll order some oscillators and have a go with those. Is there anything in particular that I'm looking for in an oscillator? Would this one do the job: http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/pro...sp?sku=9712496

I know the MD2 has a different CPU, but can the same mod be done to those as well?

Things are more or less identical between MD1 and MD2, principle is all same, just pins and locations are different.

The oscillator you showed should work ok.
