Excuse me, but what is overclocking actually good for?

That can be used with MD1 too :P

You should also run the clock output through another inverter to make the signal stronger.

It makes the chip run quicker, so games will generally scroll a lot smoother and the frame rate will be more constant. So when Sonic drops all his rings there wont be nearly as much lag as the MD struggles to cope with all those rings bouncing around.

    Thanks for the diagram dadou

yes you can use this diagram for the MD1 too but the Halt pin will be 17 and not 19

You should also run the clock output through another inverter to make the signal stronger.
what do you mean by stronger? the overclock will be more stable? or something like that?

@grimm: see this video i made, you can notice the difference

    part one: without overclock
part two: (when i reset the MD) with overclock

But doesnt overclocking also wear out the processor quicker? Or is it insignificant?

Does this make the whole game run quicker, or just smoother? I have a hard time telling the difference from the video. I can see the game doesnt really slow down when sonic loses the rings, but other than that i cant really tell much difference.

yes you saw right you can see the difference when sonic lost his rings, the overclock is good for removing the slow-down of some games, games with a lot a sprites at the same times like shooting games

But am i correct in the other assumtions? Does it shorten the lifespan of the processor? Does it speed the whole game up?

CPU won't last less and games generally don't speed up (except for some 3D games, in which its actually positive)

Just found this. Looks exactly what I have been looking for.
Can you please help. I cannot get this working correctly.
Here is what I have put together. Also I am using a 7404 gate. Would this have anything to do with it?
If I remove the 5V link at the bottom right of the circuit my LED lights up only when the switch has ground. When I go to 5V on the switch it goes out.
    I am using a bi-colour LED.
    Thanks

Only HC and AC parts work for the Hex inverter for the overclock

for your led what do you use? common anode or common cathode?

The LED I used was just a 2 pronged one. Depending on which way current goes determines the colour of the LED.

I was wondering if I had to use a 3 pronged LED for this circuit?

I am only concerned about the LED colour change. The overclock I have already in place using an oscillator.
Please excuse my ignorance as I am not too versed in electronics.
    Thanks

    pronged = legs?
if yes and the led you have is like the one in the link you will get only one color because it has only one colour
you need to buy a bi-color led which have 3 legs like this http://www.effled.com/bi-color-led-c-2_42.html

don't worry about your ignorance i'm not a professionnal too and if i can help no problem
