For offbeat, I'd strongly suggest Donkey Kong Jungle Beat WITH the bongos. It's a DK platformer that you play with bongos...that sounds weird, but it is seriously fun.

No love for Luigi's Mansion or Wario World? Get yourself a cop of Zelda Four Swords adventures too. It's not your typical zelda game, but it's still fun as hell. You don't need a gameboy advance or multiple players either, the one player game is plenty of fun.
