One thing I must say though, it's rather short.

Customized Sega Genesis Model 1 - VA3. Energy efficient with buck converters instead of LM7805's.

I have not played this game, and while I'm not a huge fan of Shmups, I do indeed have a strange desire to play expensive games, regardless of genre. But since I don't use emulators, this one is just out of my price range.

Now if I can just be lucky enough to find a copy of MUSHA for say oh, under $20...

Phenomenal for the first four levels, but less ambitious and kind of boring for the last three. Good game all in all, certainly better than the slow and drawn-out Space Megaforce, but I prefer the tougher and more consistent Robo Aleste (and Spriggan is even better than that).

One of my favorites and definitely my favorite vertical shmup on the Genesis. Personally I thought all the levels and bosses were really well designed. It's also the perfect length for a shmup for me, not too long that it wears out its welcome and not too short that I feel cheated for buying it.

I love the power-up system as well and music is legendary. I give it a slight edge over Robo Aleste. I haven't spent enough time with Spriggan to compare it to that. Pretty much all Compile shooters are winners in my book though.

Sick game, unbelievable music, and just the right length for a shmup in my opinion.

This is the single greatest song in the history of video games in my opinion:
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

I know it's a bit of sacrelige, but I've never been able to warm up to this game (and I like shmups). I'm not saying it's bad, but it doesn't grab me and make me want to play it like a lot of top notch shmups do. I'm not sure why. It has great graphics and is pretty action packed. I don't like the power up system, with the silly little pills.

I will put some more playtime into it though as it is fairly highly regarded. But thus far, MUSHA has not inspired me...

Okay, I put some more play time into it. My problem really is with the power up system. First, it is not very intuitive. I had to go to the instructions to figure it out. Second, I feel like MUSHA's power up system is distracting, between catching the little "chips" and powering up your weapons with like color power ups and avoiding the ones you don't want (the latter problem is common in a lot of shooter, but is a peeve of mine). You spend too much time chasing power ups and chips, and avoiding unwanted power ups. To me, that distracts from the pure, visceral, zen feeling of honing your shooting skills, dealing destruction and dodging incoming fire. It convolutes the "twitch" nature of shooters.

Again, MUSHA's not a bad game. It is a fun game. But in my book, not a great game. To me, it's a good game with great graphics, and it doesn't merit the $80 price tag. For $10-20, definitely worth it. I find I enjoy Truxton more, which has modest graphics (though not bad), but more fun, adrenaline inducing gameplay.

I think Fire Shark is the king of power-up dodging games.

Never really found myself having that issue with MUSHA but you're right about the little pills.

This game is just Okay, It dosen't feed your addiction like thunder force III, raiden and others. I start playing and get kinda bored by the 4rth level.

MUSHA is a fantastic game. It's even better when you don't stretch it to 16:9.
