Default Sega add ons region question

Will a US 32x or CD work on a UK MegaDrive?

What about if the MegaDrive has been fitted with 50/60hz and language switches?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but forum search tools are universally a bit on the rubbish side.

    Thanks

Yes, it will work if your Mega Drive is modded for 60 Hz output. I played with a US 32X myself for a couple of years.

With the region switch, yea, it'll work fine.

Just remember this, a 50Hz game on a US 32X is impossible without modifying the 32X. I did a region mod to my 32X and the result is funny.

It'll output NTSC50, not a PAL output or some broken color output, it's real NTSC 50.. So american TV's can show color as long as it is capable of syncing to it.

Right, so there is some sort of region checking actually inside the 32x?
So I'd only be able to play US games on it, but considering how much cheaper US 32x are thats still worth doing.

How about my PAL MegaCD, will it boot US games if I set the switches to match? I see a few NTSC SegaCD games on ebay and most of those US exclusives. I know I could just burn a disk, but I think its nice to own the real thing

The Sega CD BIOS checks the region of the Genesis/Mega Drive.. If they don't match you get a screen saying so and the CD BIOS doesn't even start.

The 32X doesn't actually "check" it just expects a certain video frequency and if it's not correct it just fails to start.

I tought that 32x is always english region but there is smd resitor for chip to act as a jumper to provide gnd or +5 to HZ signal of the 32x. You can change the region of 32 this way to pal or us. I just happens that you need to have 50hz 32x and 50hz genesis and 50hz pal games to work. Or other round 60hz with 60hz games. I modded my pal 32x using mono pin on attachement cable and my md2 or Multimega changes from it's single switch also the 32x to correct region.

Be true to yourself. GFX doesn't matter, the game does. If you are intrested to donate one NTSC Genesis for hardware testing purposes, please pm me.
