Hey Dave! You and Joe make great stuff, and I am always entertained. Keep up the good work! I also particularly liked your turn as the unimpressed friend in Joe's "Advanced Technology and You" video. That one always brings a smile to my face.

"How can I be impressed by something so unimpressive?" Good stuff and thanks for dropping by!

Wow! Dave actually posted! Now we have two celebrities in one thread.

I think you do a great job on the show and are "a necessary evil" if that's what we call Nintendo these days. You're both partially comic relief and required host. We all have an inner Nintendo fanboy, so I concur with what MrMatthews said. Keep up the awesome work you two.

Joe, will you post a mailing address so we can send in fanmail? Serious question here. I feel like I missed part of my childhood for never sending enough fanmail...

I think the best way to do that would be to DM the MrGameSack Youtube account. That way it's all there and it's easy to keep track of. Maybe we'll make some sort of announcement about this on the next episode.

You got Dave to post on the site Joe?! Did you threaten to break his SNES or something ?

No, he did it on his own! But I know his SNES is very special to him. He's had it since day 1.

I feel like I'm living in sin posting on a SEGA forum. God save me! Actually my SEGA collection is bigger then my Nintendo collection. It wasn't always that way though as I was a huge Nintendo fanboy back in the late 1980's and early 90's.
Sorry that Fantasy Zone PCB was so heavy Dave.

    I warned you guys!

In regards to the latest video:
What's with Dave's claim that the brick Game Boy only lasts 5-7 hours??? I can understand that he was possibly just making a vague guess, but (unless he has a really weird/messed up GB) it should be around 20-30 hours on 4 good alkaline AAs. (I think a bit over 35 hours under ideal conditions)

In any case, all other Nintendo handhelds had far less batter life than the original BG when used under comparable conditions (similar batteries, similar use/play, etc).

If it was only 5-7 hours, the advantage over the GG and Lynx would have been far more modest. (better Lynx and GG models tended to get 5-6 hours, if not a bit more -even the early model lynx was capable of ~4 hours)

Personally, battery life isn't that big of a deal IMO. For my GG, I had an AC adapter, a car adapter, and a rechargeable battery pack (not the "dildo", the other one). When I got a Game Boy (which was later), I instinctively bought the same accessories. In fact, the only portable that I didn't buy at least an AC adapter for was the NGPC, which has an insane battery life. But, I'd trade that battery life for a backlit screen any day.

I have two problems with portable gaming. One, I have to hold my hands perfectly still or even a simple button press obscures my view of the action on screen. Two, I just cannot make myself sit down and play a game while people are around. Nothing makes me feel more anti-social than playing a game alone in a crowd.

Nice to see you finally post here, Dave. I've been looking forward to this episode for a while and I was not disappointed.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Yeah, I avoid air buses at all costs. I will drive 18hrs before I get on a passenger plane. Anything longer than that, and a portable game system with a nice mind melting RPG to play might be a great idea.

Battery life on the original Game Boy wasn't 20 hours on my Game Boy. Maybe 10 if I remember correctly. It wasn't long after I bought the Game Boy that I bought the rechargeable battery pack for the system and forgot about buying batteries.
Rechargeable batteries are the best innovations in a new hand held system that people tend not to think about.

Robivy64, thanks for sending the arcade boards. That was a fun episode and would like to do more if you have more arcade boards that have home console translations.

^^This. I tried playing a Castlevania game on the DS at a dealership waiting room while my car was getting serviced once and I felt like an asshole. But then again I generally feel like an asshole 24/7. With portables I mostly tend to play them in bed or when I am alone somewhere.

While Dave's memory isn't what it used to be (he often forgets not to wet himself), I don't think he would misremember such a huge battery life. Maybe they fixed this in later brick releases and I think Dave has one of the earlier units. He played Tetris on it a lot on family trips and whatnot. I know this because I have been stalking Dave ever since the GameBoy came out.

I've never actually tested it (time wise), but my GBs tended to last far longer than GBP, GBC, GBA (not sure about SP), and DS. Using weaker alkalines (cheap brands aren't all bad, but it varies) and definitely non-alkalines (dry cells or "regular" or "heavy duty" as Panasonic says -Alkaline being "Super HeavyDuty") will get far worse battery life than good alkalines. (not talking about lithiums)
I do remember specifically that the old GB would last more than 2x as long as the pocket.

Another issue is how you play. Playing for extended periods may wear out the batteries faster than intermittent use.

There's another member on Sega-16 (A Black Falcon) who mentioned actually testing the battery life iirc, or at least pointing to more detailed sources.

It may also vary by the specific GB used. (late revisions might be less power hungry -definitely the case for the GG, with a difference of ~3-4 hours vs ~6)
