Yo Dave and Joe. You both obviously have some serious dough, so what do you actually do for work?

I don't really wanna talk about MUSHA again and I don't think I have enough time to capture footage from Snatcher (is that even rare?) So what are some good suggestions, not just for the Genesis/Mega Drive/Sega CD/32X, but other Sega systems as well. Keep in mind if you suggest something I may not have it so don't be heartbroken if you don't see it in the episode!

They're sperm donors. It's the job they'd been training for since middle school.

Sparkster on the Genesis is rather hard to come by (at least complete). Popful Mail is sought after/not cheap (though I don't remember, you might have covered it already). I can think of a couple games on Dreamcast, but I am afraid their prices would soar before I had the chance to purchase them should you cover them in an episode. ;-)

P.S. I've read several times that less than 10 000 copies of Snatcher were made. As to how many there are in circulation? That's anybody's guess.

    This!

Also, Super Tempo on the Saturn has become crazily expensive. IDK if have it in your collection or if you have already covered this one though...
Uh, maybe Wolfchild on the Sega CD (the US release)? A CIB version in great condition is almost impossible to find right now, thanks to its cardboard box but, also, it feels like the US version has significantly less copies than the JP one, what is really bizarre since this is a western game and the Mega CD didn't exactly set the Japan on fire. The CD version has extended levels and Red Book soundtrack not present in any other version (and a few other differences when compared to the Genesis release).
And, of course, I reinforce the Snatcher request. IDK, maybe you could use some footage from its awesome intro and just add a few moments of the game play, until when it find that headless body in the abandoned factory or something (there's one of those exclusive shooting sequences there too IIRC). The Sega CD's redition of the soundtrack is awesome and puts the Ricoh chip to some good use.

Do either of you have Cosmic Smash on Dreamcast? That game was great.

NTSC Spider-Man and Pitfall for 32x, from what I understand Pitfall is rarer, but Spider-Man commands the higher price tag. PAL Darxide is supposed to be the rarest 32x game.

You could always do a show about the SG-1000 or the kid's system Pico. Since neither system sold well, most of the games are rare, but just not in demand. Had Nintendo made a similar children's system, collector's would likely be all over it today.

Good idea I've never seen Pitfall for 32X and I've only seen a little bit of Spider-Man and from what I remember it looked decent.

I also agree it would be awesome to see Joe show the SG-1000 (and the other early Japanese Sega home game consoles), the Pico or just some of the other rare Sega hardware like Arcade hardware or the early mechanical games! Kinda out there and it would be hard to get hands on footage but it would be neat.

Too bad the Tengen Marble Madness doesn't work with the US mouse. I don't have a JP mouse to demonstrate.

Though it is not. The PAL versions of T-Mek and Primal Rage are both much rarer.

I dunno, "rare" games are 110% random. Some goddawful Acclaim crap is worth 1000s of monies just because they were released late, no one in Japan bought them and 90% of the print run probably ended in some landfill.

Aside of Tetris the rarest MD games are without a doubt the SFT games with only 300+ units in circulation, closely followed by Oh Mummy and the initial print of Pier Solar.

Good and hard to come by Japanese games are Bare Knuckle III (billion times better than SOR3), Phantasy Star 1 MD, Monsterworld IV, Pengo (very last Sega game for MD), Pulseman (by GameFreak of Pokemon fame), Snow Bros., and everything by Tengen Japan.

Flux for Mega CD pioneered the simultaneous use of cartridge port and CD and was only released in Europe. Maui Mallard was only released in Europe although it was developed in the US. It's very different from the widely available SNES version I hear, and actually the original game from which the SNES version was derived, by a different team.

On Mega CD practically everything with any quality to it is considered rare in Europe, but Snatcher definitely is fantastic, as is Keio Flying Squadron. Those games' intros alone should do the trick so you might save a lot of time with capturing footage for those. Shining Force CD is extremely awesome as well. Then there's Lunar, Popful Mail, Vay, Space Adventure.

On Saturn all the RPGs and shmups are considered rare, Shining Force 3 and Thunder Force V probably would be obvious choices here.

For Dreamcast the most valuable games are all shmups, and almost all of them were printed in really low numbers so they are as rare as anything could possibly be. The big ones aside Ikaruga are Border Down from 2003, Under Defeat from 2006, Karous (or Karasu) and Trigger Heart, both from 2008.
Other rare games are some 1 on 1 fighters like Marvel vs Capcom 2 which is considered the best version of the game available. REZ is fucking amazing and very rare, I doubt it was even released in the US (thanks a bunch, Mr. Moore).

On SMS Power Strike is rare, but the later European releases like Power Strike II, Rainbow Islands, Sagaia, The Flash aren't probably too easy to find as well.

The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

Great game-by-game review for the Neo Geo X!
The stop motion stuff at the end wasn't bad either.

Awesome episode. I got one at launch and I don't regret it. Not the perfect system, but it is worth having if you are a Neo Geo fan.
