Yeah, that was a bad port indeed.

An episode of really good ports would be interesting perhaps; there were a ton of arcade 'downgrades' in the pre PS2 days that played great, VF2 for Saturn springs to mind. Also, 8 from 16 bit ports - I always thought the Game Gear MK games were quite impressive, as was the GG port of Ecco.

I remember Mortal Kombat on the Game Gear, 1 and 2 are damn good ports. 3 is a travesty.

Still better than Game Boy 3, that's somehow even worse.

Speaking of ports, this would be a damn great time for Sega to re-release Skies of Arcadia in remastered form for the Switch. Maybe this time it would get the attention such an awesome game deserves.

^I've been holding-off from opening my sealed DC copy in case they release an HD remastered version of it as well. I wouldn't mind trophy support on the PS4, though. But a Switch version sounds cool too.

^Wow, you still have a sealed copy? Does that mean that you haven't played it yet?

I had MK1 & 2 for GG, and I didn't think they were good ports.

Funny thing is, I've put at least 100 hours on that demo from Vol. 9 of the DC magazine since back in the day. Back then I was still in college, so I could never afford it. So I would always go back to it and enjoy that demo over and over throughout the years. I loved that game and the premise. But to this day, it has remained on my backlog ever since. I did end up finding a nice sealed copy of it many years later, so by then my backlog had grown exponentially and I just didn't have the heart to break the seal unless I had the time to really immerse myself in it. I didn't even try to get it sealed, but the price was right at the time.

I did break the seal on the Evolution games, though. Those two were lots of fun. The same with other Dreamcast games. But nowadays, unless I really have my plans laid-out where I can truly immerse myself in these games, I just can't bring myself to break those seals just yet.

I can understand that. Generally, I'd say to leave it sealed, and if you do eventually find the time, get the Gamecube version. Besides the bonus material and slightly improved graphics, the loading times and random encounters were significantly improved. So much so that it's one of the few games that I cared to 100%.

Grandia 2 DC is equally amazing. The battle system is so fun that I hunted down every enemy in the game and killed them all. I'll have to try Evolution. I believe that I have the 1st one somewhere, but never tried it.

Yeah, Grandia 2 is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I've finished it multiple times since its bitd.

Evolution is no Grandia 2 or Skies of Arcadia, but they are both solid titles and very fun.

Man, we must really have different tastes in RPGs. I thought Grandia 2 was pretty boring. Only thing that kept me to the end was interest in that one character named Millenia.

^ Man, what an interesting character she was.

The one thing that kept me from completing Skies of Arcadia on the DC was the random battles. Once I got past the great rift, exploring became a very tedious chore, because of all of the random battles.

Grandia 2 was awesome. Game Informer's latest issue has the top 100 RPGs of all time, with Grandia 2 at #54, just ahead of Skies of Arcadia at 55. I don't agree with their choice of putting Mass Effect at #64 though.

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

^I read that issue. It was a neat read (more like browsing through the pages for me, but still neat though). I agreed with about 50% of their choices, but much less with their order. Which is saying a lot. Even then, that last issue reminded me of what game mags used to be like back in the day. It was pure fun seeing remembering and/or learning what games I don't yet own, but should.
