To try and go back on topic, I just recently ordered Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend off of Amazon for $9, a title that's actually not that easy to find. The game is hilarious with some of the cheesiest FMV I've ever seen, and actually pretty fun too.
That's a great list. I'm playing through Panzer Dragoon Saga right now, just finished Disc 1 and it is AMAZING! And I'm not even an RPG fan! You have to try out this game, it might just be worth the high cost of admission.
The original Panzer Dragoon is fun for a few levels, but after that really starts to drag on and get overly difficult, I'm not really a fan. I've tried to beat it to get the ending but the game heaps on a ton of difficulty on you towards the end levels. I have Zwei but have yet to play it, I hear that's the better game.
Guardian Heroes I bought for going price and felt disappointed when playing it, it's pretty overrated. The gameplay is clunky at best, stiff movements and while there's a lot of attacks, it's too complicated for it's own good. Maybe in the future I'll give it another chance, but I wouldn't pay the going rate for it again.
And your list lacks both Burning Rangers & NiGHTS into Dreams..., but must-buys for the system IMO. Amazing, amazing games.
You need to play more of Zwei, honestly, I hate the 1st game, and I mean hate it, I actually put off buying Zwei for years based on my dislike of the 1st game, but Zwei is such a huge improvement on the original in pretty much all areas (especially the dragon control, focussed level designs, and layouts of the enemy attack waves, length and extras) that its one of my favourite games on Saturn, being able to use the analogue controler also benefits it a lot in my opinion.
Me too, I feel very burned in regards to Guardian Heroes, I expected to be buying an all time "classic" but instead its a "good" game (7.5-8.2 IMO) that cost me waaay too much money, I expected it to be Streets of Rage 2/Turtles in Time tier.
I was already excited at the end of Disc 1, I'm at the Start of Disc 2 right now. Looking forward to the rest of the game!
Well I've got Zwei so sooner or later so I'm definitely going to play it, most likely after I finish Panzer Dragoon Saga. I originally tried to play them in order, but after I realized how impossible the first Panzer Dragoon is, I just skipped Zwei and went straight to Saga, the one I wanted to play the most. Especially after I heard that Saga really doesn't have much, if anything to do with the first two games.
I don't think I'd even rate it that high. I'd give it about a six, the gameplay is just too damn clunky. All the jumping and mass hordes of enemies make the game confusing IMO. I was also expecting the same tier of gameplay, as both of those games (and Hyperstone Heist) are some of my all-time favorite games to play, and I love the beat-em-up Genre. Guardian Heroes was just...disappointing to say the least.
Well Saga's Story is rather linked to Zwei and Zwei is somewhat linked to the first.
Basically the order for story goes Zwei, Panzer Dragoon, Saga.
And 16bitter, we call into question those magazines because things they say do not add up with the real life facts and evidence from the games themselves. The perfect example of this was that quote saying Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2 were not as impressive as Toshinden or Ridge Racer because they were the product of two years of uninterrupted access to mastering the hardware. This may be true for Virtua Figther 2 but certainly not Sega Rally. First of all AM3, the team that made Sega Rally, hadn't even been around for more than two years. And their first year of existence focused entirely on the Arcade version of Sega Rally. After that was released they began work on the Saturn version from scratch and finished it in under a years time. We can figure this out by just looking at release dates and the dates when these teams were founded. So it's not possible for Sega Rally on the Saturn to be the product of two years of uninterrupted work with the Hardware as the team didn't even spend a full year working on it.
Those magazine quotes you present many times do not add up to simple facts like I stated above. That's the major problem with them.

Interesting, I wanted to play them in order but ah well. I'll finish up Saga and then start up Zwei.
Good to hear then, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on any important story details that carried on from one game to the next (If there were any).
And I'm glad someone cut out this from that shitstorm going on in the Sega Saturn mega thread.
What's your guys overall favorite Saturn games? I'm always looking for new titles to buy. My absolute favorites are NiGHTS and Burning Rangers, to be honest I think they top every 2D Sonic game made by Sonic Team. So underrated!

It's nice to see this thread is separate from the absurd mega thread. Now We can get back to actually talking about cool video games to play, instead of seeing who can regurgitate the most useless marketing info about a dead console!
I watched a few videos about Amok, that definitely looks like fun. If prices aren't to bad, I might have to pick it up. I also saw some video of a game called Solar Eclipse. Has anyone here had any hands-on with this one? It looks like Galaxy Force II and Starfox got together for some sweet sweet lovin, and this was the fruit of Their loins:
You'll have to skip to about five and a half minutes in to see some in-game footage, and I could do without the b-grade live acting, but it looks pretty cool.
Open WIIIIIIIIIIIDE For chunky!
Solar Eclipse was a 1995 title and can usually be found for dirt cheap on ebay.
This is a good game that is common and cheap, I picked up a complete copy at my nearby Retro game shop for 13.99 recently. Its pretty good actually. I had never heard of it.
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

Just got this one in the mail today. If you like Pool games combined with so-bad-you-have-to-watch-it FMV, then this game is for you. A lot of nice features, the gameplay is solid, and the FMV is near-legendary. Minnesota Fats is actually pretty rare for a sports game, R4 for the Saturn. There's also a version of the game on Genesis (An R6!) but it's totally different single-player wise.
Pick it up if you see it, or if you're looking for a new game. It can be found pretty cheaply online, got mine for $9 Shipped CIB off of Amazon.
Action Replay 4-in-1 cart is $32.95. Not really a bad price at all, and is EXTREMELY useful as it functions as an region mod, 1MB cart, 4MB cart and memory cart. It is TOTALLY worth it.

A great device, but only if you keep it in your Saturn. I use this with an official Sega Memory Cart and it doesn't work all of the time when I put it back in unfortunately after using the Memory Cart, so I try to get the US copies of games if they exist rather than risk fucking up my cart slot. I also hear it doesn't work with Panzer Dragoon Saga.
