    Default Master System region mod

Anybody knows how to do a region mod on a US model 1 Master System??? can't find any info about this, I'm starting to think that only the model 2 is moddable.

Hey mate, not sure if it has been covered there but have you joined up at www.SMSpower.org? They have a wealth of info on the SMS there.

Neither of those tutorials seem to work 100%, I need to set my MS in japanese mode to play Wonderboy 3 with FM music (I have the FM board).

I have a Japanese Mark III SMS with MS to Mark III converter and no copy of Wonderboy III that I've tried produces FM sound. The Brazillian version (Turma Da Monica?) however, does play with FM sound.

Oh ok, I have the FM board (Viletim's ver1.0) in my SMS2 to get Wonderboy 3 to work with FM sound you need (from memory) to press left on control pad 2 while turning on the console or something like that. I remember reading it there and it did work for me.

*edit sorry just found the it on there, the console has to be set to JPN.

I live in PAL land but think the design is the same for the US models.
To get the MARKIII bios running on my SMS's I just find the chip labelled 315-5237 and solder a wire to pin 23 of that chip. Then I attach the to the centre pin of a switch. Then I attach a ground pin to either of the other points of the switch. The existing point of the switch is just left floating.
I have done this on SMS and SMSII
Not sure if this is what you are after.

I have the european version of Wonderboy III dragon's trap, not Turma da Monica.

You need to press left+button 1 on controller 1 to acces JPN mode, didn't work for me.

Like I said, Wonderboy III doesn't work on my Japanese system, nor my Korean Gam*boy with FM sound.

Interesting..have you tried pressing left+button 1 on controller 1?? did you watch the video I posted? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlaEr57934w
the guy from that video shows a PAL SMS region modded playing WBIII (I guess it's an euro cartridge) with Fm sound.

Here is something i just whipped up to show how to do it. Pretty simple really. You don't need to lift any pins. Just install the switch and a wire to pin 23 back to a switch and a wire from ground to the switch.
Note that I just leached the picture.

I soldered the leg directly to the RF shield (no switch for me though, i'll leave it in JP mode since I don't want to drill the plastic case) and gues what? it works!!thank you.

I guess that the Mark III SMS either lacks a region or is set to non-Japan.

Your console might be set to non-Japan because Wonderboy III checks the system region first and if an FM unit is present (I think Time Soldiers does the same) so it should play with FM sound on a JPN system, or it could be also a hardware issue related to the gender adapter.

*I might be wrong but isn't the korean Gam* Boy the same as the US SMS hardware wise?? that means that the Gam*Boy doesn't have the YM2113.

While we're on the subject... Any good SMS modders around? My SMS2 is PAL RF only, no use to me like that.
