Sonic 2 and I was hooked on video games forever.
At Thanksgiving of 97 my grandparents handed me a Macy's catalog and asked me what I wanted, I skipped around and there towards the back was the videogame section, and in it there was a N64 and Genesis 3. The N64 came with Super Mario 64 and the Genesis Jurassic Park.
I ended up getting a Genesis because dinosaurs are cooler than Mario.
Altered Beast (pack-in)
Ghouls'n Ghosts (first US purchase)
Batman (first import purchase)
Mine was Mortal Kombat! I remember writing down the fatality moves and unlocking extra characters on my cupboard. Then came Alien Soldier. The greatest mistake was giving away all my Sega games to my friend who eventually threw it away.
Sonic 1 of course. Pretty sure it was the first Gen game I ever played. Anywho I didn't actually own a Genesis of my own until 2006, but I ended up ordering Sonic 1 and it got here before the Genesis![]()

I can't really remember, but it was definitely one of these games:
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Paperboy
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat II
Earliest memories I have are of playing Paperboy, Sonic 1, and MKII.
I remember Christmas of 89, Woodmans (a local grocery store chain, that somehow manages to even undercut Wal-mart on many items) had a side business in video and game rentals. It was the only place I'd even seen in the area that rented Sega Master System games. Anyway, they got the Genesis in and had a few rental units, and I talked my parents into renting a Genny for me. the first two games I played were Thunder Force 2, and Revenge of Shinobi. I had to have a Genesis. During this time I had a paper route, so I saved up some money from that and in April 1990 purchased a Genesis. At that point, the US Genesis came with Altered Beast, so that was the first game I owned. Of course I continued to rent Genesis and Master Sytem games (Eventually the sold off their SMS games when they dropped SMS rentals, and often they would sell off rental copies of games that were no longer renting well, so many of my earliest purchased Genesis games were former rental copies).
My first megadrive was the model II, it didn't come with a game so i bought mickey mania along with it. Still a frustrating game, at least the last level still drive me nuts. The rest of the game is really nice and pretty easy.
The rest of the games i bought for it were: sonic 2, sonic 3, cool spot, 3 in 1 cartridge with super hang on, columns and dr robotniks mean bean machine and a soccer game. Didn't had that much money back in the days when i was a kid and i also had a game gear to buy games for.
I did rent a lot of games at the video rental store.
Sonic 2, it came with my Genesis in 1994. Shortly after I also got Super Street Fight II, and then the following Christmas, I got Gunstar Heroes, one of my favorites.
Sonic 1. I got my genesis as soon as sonic 1 came out. I really had no interest in it before that.
Streets of Rage 1

sonic 1 - first game ever
Sonic 1 was the pack-in and i picked up SoR1 along with it. My mind was blown and I really noticed the jump from 8 to 16 bit. The next time I would feel blown away with a generation jump would be with the Dreamcast (Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur). I haven't been that impressed with a generation jump since.
