    Arrow Sealed or used

So, what is bascially the point of owning a sealed game? are you gonna put it in a museum when your older, higher value?

like, Why would spend so much money on sealed game, just to resale it later on? I know you'll get your moneys worth, but did you really miss out on a great game for over 15 years just to get an extra $150 of what you paid for?

    SEALED

USED, but at least served its purpose, to be enjoyed

Sealed isn't the thing for me either, but you have to realize collecting old games serves no purpose to 99.9999% of the planet either. People collect things that make them happy (hopefully), and different things make different people happy.

I am sure some of it is for the rarity of it, some people for the preservation, some people for the thought of it being pristine and new. I, myself, love minty CIB, which isnt a far cry from sealed I suppose in that regard.

Ill also add that its highly likely most sealed collectors have a powerpak/everdrive etc. so they ARE enjoying the great games they buy. They just also get the benefit of having a virgin copy to preserve along with it.

Yeah I buy to use myself. If I ever put the funds out to grab another FF1 or Dragon Warrior with all the stuff, I'll probably get the maps and such laminated so I don't have to worry about them falling apart like what happened to my original copies. If I had the space and money, I would probably sealed used stuff just to display though. Then again, if I had the space and the money, I'd have a lot more loose games as well haha

Sealed shit is stupid...games are meant to be played.

Well, someone's offering me a sealed copy of Lunar for $50 CAD. Looking on ebay, it seems that used copies sell for that much. So I could sell my used copy for $50 and replace it with a minty new one, or keep the new one sealed up in hopes of finding a buyer for it at a higher price later.

But generally if I buy a new copy of something I intend to play it. I just take good care of it so it stays in good shape. No spilling coke on it, or getting it covered in peanut butter.

I'll be honest, I don't get the appeal of sealed games. Action figures as well have a really big market sealed, but those in order to actually play with them you have to destroy the box, so that's mildly understandable. Video games though I can't understand why having them in the original shrink wrap makes them worth 4-5x the normal going price.

But collectors are an interesting bunch, whatever floats their boat I suppose.

I've also had a tough time understanding the concept of collecting for the sake of collecting. It's the same with other collecting venues I guess (i.e.- knives. Some are functional and for the hunt, others are decorative pieces with which you can do nothing at all).

I guess that qualifies me as a "functional" or "practical" collector. I collect Mint CIB to Sealed for the most part. But if I have it sealed, it will surely get opened and played at one point. I glance at my collection right now and I see a good selection of games, all of which are playable. It's the perk of collecting for me; to be able to browse through all my games and pick one at will. As long as I keep them all mint CIB, I'm fully satisfied.

Old games sealed are way too damned expensive for me to collect, so a mix of CIB, CB, CI or cart only is the way I roll.

Now new games, is a whole other matter. More specifically, the previous gen's games. Right now it's REALLY easy to get non-sports and non-crap games for the PS2, GC, Xbox and GBA for super cheap, SEALED. I've been hitting up a Liquidation store and here's a recent lot I got:

    Drill Dozer
    Lego Star Wars (GBA)
4 Games in One (GT 1, 2 ,3 and MotoGP)
    Sigma Star Saga (two copies)
    Bionic Commando (360)
    Baten Kaitos Origins (three copies)

All sealed, 50 cents each. Seriously, how does one find three copies of a near first party GameCube RPG (I figure they all have a Club Nintendo code in them) sealed, for half a dollar each?

I've gotten better stuff from that store before, but at higher rates. (previous rates used to be $2, and longer ago $5)

I have a copy of Musha sealed as well as a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. Though I didn't plan on keeping them since they were birthday gifts many many years ago, I held on to them. I own opened CIB versions of those games as well but I am happy when I see my sealed games because they just remind me of a different time when things were not as hectic and I would never sell them either because I see them as big parts of my collection.

I don mind buying a sealed version of a game but i aint paying a dollar extra for it. games are meant to be played so it won't stay sealed once i get it.
    No added value for me.
