Default Windows 8 User Interface revealed!

So far I don't like it. Looks too similar to the 360 Dashboard. Right down to how Windows 8 displays the User in the top right like the 360 displays Gamertags. It also looks like a Mobile OS. LOL

    What are your thoughts? Discuss.

EDIT: I hope there is an option for a Classic GUI.

This has to be fake. There is no way anyone will use this over Windows 7

Am I the only one who doesn't want to touch the screen? The user interface would make using things like Photoshop and video editors near impossible. It also seems to get rid of the scroll bar completely except when browsing files. All I know is that my hands and arms are much more at rest and comfortable when not reaching to touch the damn screen. I hate the touch screen interface on the iPhone and iPad.

Like all of Apple's products, this looks like it is aimed only at people who want to store and share photos, music and maybe make a few tweets. Fuck those people. This is like the Wii of personal computing.

Surely this is only a touch version of Windows 8, or an optional mode or something.

The guy says in the video that it accepts touch or the standard keyboard and mouse interface if you prefer. But it still looks like garbage.

Yes, but they are selling the touch aspect of it and saying "It works with keyboard and mouse if you have that". If I have that? They say it like they think the world WANTS to go 100% touch on everything.

Oh, I agree wholly. It sounds just like what was brought up in that recent "Really?" thread... It's like he's saying, "It uses this wonderful touch interface like everything should - oh, you want to use a keyboard and mouse... REALLY?! *scoffs*... its got touch tech bro - deal with it."

I was just saying that because I thought j_factor might have missed that part based on how I understood his comment. I definitely was not supporting this thing by any stretch.

If I can go back to normal interface I'd be willing to give it a shit, but if not, I'll be passing this one... I much prefer my hands to lay in same place and sometimes move an object very slightly and release weight of my fingers on certain parts of the object...

I agree with you 100%. When I heard "It works with keyboard and mouse if you have that" I just started laughing. Why did he make the Mouse and Keyboard combo seem like it was some outdated tech? Don't get me wrong, touch screen controls are fine with me on a Mobile OS. But when it comes to a PC, I'm gonna stick with my Mouse/Trackball and Keyboard combo.

The concept is that the UI changes to reflect the hardware that the OS is installed on. Whether any of this is set in stone, though, is anyone's guess

(the side-by-side UX is demonstrated at this point in the video)

Totally correct. This is the way Windows is progressing. It is so the OS will be the same across all platforms, Desktop, All-in-One PC, tablet and laptop and it will use more powerful hardware, unlike the iPad or Android tablets. It will be able to work with the same hardware as Windows 7 will and be backward compatible with software. I think it looks awesome and as a Windows Phone 7 user it offers a great deal of continuity. The release is over a year away so I doubt that's exactly how it will look.
