Seems to me your TV might have issues with 240p video signals sent through Component. Have you tried with a console other than a Genesis? Or on another TV with Component inputs(preferably a CRT)?
I personally would NEVER trust any LCD TV with any classic game console. Most either make the games look like complete crap, have a noticeable delay in the video signal or completely reject the video signal being fed.
The problem isn't Scart RGB and it most likely isn't the RGB to Component adapter.
Its your TVs as the others have said.
I would also recommend picking up an older CRT. Preferably something like a Sony PVM monitor with RGB inputs. Pretty much the best video quality you will EVER see from your classic consoles. I use a JVC broadcast quality monitor (JVC's take on a PVM monitor) using straight RGB input via BNC connectors and the picture quality on my SNES and especially the Genesis is fantastic. Razor sharp.
Old consoles deserve a good CRT.
It's quite disappointing having to buy a whole new TV after just buying a new converter, but a CRT is
really the way to go for old consoles. The new TVs just don't have such low resolutions so they make
everything into a blur by rescaling the signal.
Do you have a possibility of checking the scart cable? Maybe it's faulty, I had a problem with mine
too. It displayed everything in b/w if in 60Hz mode.
P.S.: Just found that article of mmmonkey. Might have to do something with your problem.
I find my Panasonic LCD works best with RGB SCART, and only with a 60Hz signal. If I set my MegaDrive to 50Hz, I get an off centre pic. Similarly, I get a picture almost identical to yours on my Nomad's new screen (hooked up internally to the AV out port, so Compsite I think) when set to 50Hz.
I have a scart to component converter on my TV, it looks AMAZING.
or you can go scart to HDMI.. thats what i use since my LCD hates 240p component.
I tried a SCART to HDMI converter for my off centre 50Hz problem, it centred it up OK but only gave a monochrome picture. The 60Hz signal was garishly coloured.
You really want to try to keep things analog. Once you put it through HDMI things get distorted and extremely blocky as the TV struggles to display the image. Do yourself a favor, go out and get one of those big ass TV’s that has component (and in my case HDMI and 1080i) and run it through that. It is easily the best picture I have ever seen on my video game consoles of old. Even the 360 looks great. Tube TV’s really are great.
P.S. anyone know where I can get a Japanese 21PIN Lead for my Sega Saturn?
Alright, I just bought one of these Scart to Component adapters and a Genesis 2 Scart cable for my 32Xs. My Toshiba 40" LCD supports 480i resolution and actually already looks great in Game Mode with all of my composite systems while sitting from seven feet away. I'm hoping I'm not going to run into any 50Hz versus 60Hz problems.
Now, assuming this works on my LCD set, does anybody who's handle starts with a T want to tell me if there is a modless way to hook up a DUO/R with RGB?![]()
Don't be knocking SCART, that shit is hot even in the USA.
Was that directed at me? In addition to expecting this adapter to allow a normal sized image on my screen, I'm hoping that interlaced RGB will look better than emulation. I am very used to Composite output quality with the appropriate setups, which in my experience do not have excessive rainbow effects or dot crawl that eliminates object details. I have been wanting to compare RGB quality on my own for a long time, and this is the first time I couldn't resist the price of admission.
Nah I was jokingly referring to the OP, sorry.
