    Hi guys I'm new here.

I love the 16 bit generation of video games and collect and play stuff from that era. I feel the 16 bit era was perfect imo. I never owned a SNES or Genesis as a kid. My mom was anti video game and I only got an old NES system in 1994 because of a fluke. I am going back now as an adult to play and enjoy the era that I missed out on.

I really enjoy the Genesis a lot. I got mine with Sega CD attached to it with a 6 button controller at a Thrift store for $8 a long time ago. I still use that Sega CD today to play my CD games.

    So Hi!

Was your mom crazy as well? I had a talk with her a little while ago and she admitted that she should have lightened up a bit. I was only allowed to watch a single half an hour T.V a day pre approved by her, no violent toys and no video games. She was hardcore!

I bought myself video game consoles and rented my own games as a kid. My parents didn't support my hobby.

I couldn't do that as my mom would take the stuff off me and get rid of it. I used to get TMNT figures for my birthdays from my friends and my mom would take them off me before I could even open the toy up.

I'm sorry, don't take this the wrong way, your mom is evil and I hate her.

    No offense taken

My mom just went overboard. Like I said we had a talk about my upbringing a few months ago and she admitted she was to tough on the rules. She said if she could go back she would have changed things and have lightened up a lot.

After I managed to get my NES in 94 by fluke she lightened on the video games. In 96 I got a N64 from my uncle and by that time she was calmed down a lot. She still enforced the ESRB though so I got my first M rated game at 17 but I don't think that was really a bad thing.

My parents just basically never bought me games or systems. They had nothing against a 10-15 year old kid self employing himself so he can buy his own gaming stuff.

What a way to tyrannize some poor kids upbringing.
    Im the exact opposite.
I let my kids have fun and enjoy true freedom(within reason) while they have the opportunity.
In a short while they will be forced into school, and the system takes over their lives till death after that.
Sorry that happened to you dude, but at least you can make up for lost time.
    And on another note......

Hi all! I have a GG with an Everdrive and a CDX. I did have the Sega CD/32X back in the day but sold it to get the PlayStation when it came out. LOL I know I've shouldn't have done that.

    Hi everybody!

Never had anything SEGA related growing up. It was all about NINTENDO. Way back when, a friend called and said he just got a new game and asked if I wanted to come over and play, at first I was all pumped, but when I found out it was for the Mega Drive I quickly lost interest and said I was busy that day. Man, was I an a-hole when it came to the whole NINTENDO vs. SEGA debate. As much of a debate 8-year olds could have...

ANYWAY, three-four years ago I finally picked up a MD model 1 at a flea market, as I had become a game collector I thought it would be neat to have one. It was all still about the NINTENDO though. Slowly I picked up some more SEGA stuff here and there and I've sorta been turned around. I've got the MS, MD and DC and they're all actually pretty awesome. Until now I've only picked up stuff for the SEGA at flea markets and whatnot, but I've decided to more actively pursue SEGA since I realize how much I missed out on being a stubborn NINTENDO kid.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    Sonic Salutations!

Hey everyone, I've been lurking around the forums for a while for the great guides and writeups and reviews. My first time playing genesis was with my older bro when I was a few years old ~95, living in new york at the time when my family immigrated.

My debut post at sega16 was a reply to a WTB for a specific model 2 genesis. I bought a wireless controller and reciever from ebay a while ago, and it came with a model 2 sega genesis va3 containing the CXA1645 + 315-5700 asic chips(unknown at the time) all for $25 with shipping, and it was exactly what the op was looking for.

Anyways, I am starting to collect sega games, and already have a few such as sonic and knucks, sonic 2, mk1, mk3 and 6-Pak and on the way is street fighter 2 champion edition.

I have just been acquiring the full genesis setup:
    model 1 va7, CCAM'd by retrogamer343 (CXA1145 + 315-5487 asic)
    32x
    sega cd 2
rgb scart - > scart switch - > scart to component

hooked up to a hitachi 43" 4:3 rear projector tv + 5.1 sound system, and pumping through a belkin surge protector with sideways outlets

So I guess a little about me, I'm from bangladesh, a student at u of m, canada, and I work part time. I love hip hop (read: jdilla, nas, pharcyde, wutang, etc.), and my wallet hates my pangs of nostalgia cause I just finished collecting base set pokemon cards lol. Turning 21 this october. No pets cause I live with the rents, but I'd like to have a macaw or a cat one day. Or both.
