Default Majora's Mask 3D: Why Bother?

I commented on the video asking why bother remaking it? If people want to play Majora's Mask, why don't they play Majora's Mask? It's not hard to come by unless your country's postal service sucks. The maker of the video then replied, "You know the entire world isn't the US right? Oh, you don't? Ok." I was then going to reply that playing MM on N64 would make a lot more sense in any country some 30 million N64's exist as opposed to the 3 million 3DS's that are floating around the world right now. It'd be a lot easier for someone in Yemen or Mauritania to play the N64 version than it would be for them to play the 3DS version. I didn't get to respond, though, because he blocked me.

What am I missing? What is it about remakes that people seem to like so much? If the remake truly improves on the original and the remake has it's own original ideas implemented in it, I can totally understand. But, if it's just the same game except this time it's a bit prettier, what's the point?

EDIT: I'm basically asking why people want MM3D. It's obvious that Nintendo's only in it for the money, anyone can see that.

For the same reason why Nintendo arbitrarily decided to re-re-re-remake Ocarina of Time.

That's what I thought. But, the people commenting on the video seemed to honestly think that Nintendo was going to make MM3D for Nintendo's "fans" and only for it's fans. Perhaps I should rephrase the question: Why do people want a remake of Majora's Mask?

I loved Majora's Mask to the point where its my favorite Zelda game. I'd buy a 3DS just for this game.

Why? Assuming the remake was exactly the same except prettier, why would you want to fork over $250 or so for it? I'm not trying to criticize or insult you at all, I just want to figure out why someone would want a remake that's the same as the original.

There is a good reason behind updating games to newer systems. It offers people a reason to give Nintendo money for good (yet old) games instead of spending more money in the used games market. Speaking more from the consumer's point of view, remakes or ports mean those people can play their favorite classics on whatever new system comes out, usually with some improvements. Literally the whole planet hates the graphics of the N64, so it's no wonder most people are hungering for improved updates to that system's best games.

Also, Majora's Mask is also my absolute favorite Zelda, though I don't necessarily want to see it on 3DS. If others want it on there, more power to them. I'm happy playing it on N64 and Gamecube for the moment.

I would wonder the same thing. But when I had the chance to play it on the 3DS, it all makes sense. It's a BEAUTIFUL game, and one that I'd play through again on the 3DS. The 3D is just amazing, it does something to the game, not sure how to explain it - it almost makes it feel like a whole new game.

As someone who owns a 3DS (and DID NOT purchase it for the game being discussed) and has sunk 16 hours into Ocarina of Time 3D, I can maybe give you a better perspective.

I find it funny that you keep saying that a 3DS remake would be the same game with prettier graphics. In a way that's right, but the interface makes a whole hell of a lot of a difference. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but having an inventory and map available on the lower screen makes Ocarina 3D the best version of a classic. And while Nintendo didn't change level layout or anything of that nature, they did improve small details to make the game better, like Iron/Hover Boots.

Not only that, but millions of gamers weren't around when the N64 was in it's prime. A 3D remake is a way to introduce new gamers to Majora's Mask.

Implying that people would be crazy to want Majora's Mask in 3D is insulting. Just because you don't want something doesn't mean others don't.

Oh, derp. I forgot about the second screen. Having the inventory constantly displayed does sound rather interesting, but that seems like a rather minor change.

Also, I'm not saying that people are crazy to want MM3D, I just can't wrap my mind around the idea for some reason. Not to sound like a broken record, but why remake it if it's going to be the same game. Unless the improvements are big and truly make a much better game (making graphics nicer doesn't count because it doesn't really change anything), it seems redundant to me.

I just... I don't know. I can't figure it out. Maybe if a game that I liked was being remade... hmm. I think a thought experiment is in order.

Not to pick on you but I've never understood why people say things like this. (I heard the exact same line about Super Mario All-Stars Wii, among others.) You want this remake because it will introduce new gamers to this 12 year old game? Why -- are you a new gamer? Or are you planning to personally introduce people to this game, with the remake? Or do you have such a high opinion of this game, that you believe that doing anything that results in more people playing it has some sort of altruistic merit?

People want 1:1 remakes of old games on new consoles, because playing on old consoles is uncool.
They want it, but they are ashamed of buying old stuff, it's only for geeks and freaky nerds. So if
someone makes a remake of an old gem for a new console, those people can buy the game and don't
    feel bad about themselves.

    That's my theory at least : P

That's one of the most absurd things I've ever read.

I don't own a N64, nor have I ever played Majora's Mask (not even in emulation). Mostly because I don't have too much time to sit down and play the game on my TV at home. However, I do play handheld games on my commute to and from work - that's were I played and finished the iPhone-Version of Shining Force, for example. So a remade mobile version of the game does indeed pique my interest. I don't necessarily need the 3D-part, but then again, it might be something that makes getting the 3ds more interesting to me.
