I bought Kid Chameleon when it was new. I saw it at a kiosk at TRU and thought it looked like they managed to put more colors on the backgrounds, or maybe I read that in a magazine. Either way, I was desperate for a new game and bought it. The music was the first thing to disappoint me, and this was the first game I played with a cassette playing instead of the game music. I only had one cassette at the time, so I played Kid Chameleon over and over to Weird Al's 'Smells Like Nirvana." Once I finally realized I just didn't like Kid Chameleon, I couldn't stand listening to Weird Al anymore either.
Golden Axe and Altered Beast are just classic Arcade games, the entire gaming landscape at the time would have been worse if those two games didn't exist. If Golden Axe is bad then so are the Double Dragon games. If Altered Beast is bad then so are Bad Dudes and Splatterhouse 1 + 2. Saying that the Phantasy Star games aren't good is almost as silly as saying the CGI fest RPGs today have great stories.
I never liked Vectorman, it just didn't click with me. I had played Ranger X by the time I played Vectorman I really didn't see the point of another shooter. I don't understand why Rolling Thunder 3 is considered better than Rolling Thunder 2 either, Rolling Thunder 2 is an amazing Arcade port, 2-Player and I think it has more memorable level designs.
The Mutant League games are remixes of EA's other sports titles that expose how limited their engines really were. Rock N Roll Racing is an RC Pro Am clone. The Micro Machine games are too hard. Castlevania 1, 3, 4 and the Gradius games are slow and boring.
Ouu an opportunity to bash on Vectorman series. Count me in. They were flashy and gimmicky, but boring/shallow games. Ugh. I didn't like them then, and I don't know. So I guess that doesn't count?
PS3 just straight sucks and PS4 was nice and still is. But PS2 hasn't aged well at all. It's not that the graphics are bad (they're fine) and it's not that the music isn't great (because it is), it's because the god damn grinding it through the roof. I guess BITD this didn't bother me, but hell.. it keeps me from beating it nowadays. It's worst than the infamous Dragon Warrior 1 (which people like to refer to when mentioning grind fests).
That music sounds just like the Genesis though. As for Golden Axe even when I first played it back in the early 90's it just never did it for me. Golden Axe didn't become any good until Revenge of Death Adder came out. It is by far the best looking and best playing Golden Axe by a wide margin.
Kid Chameleon never did it for me either. I did buy Vectorman 2 and I loved every bit of it.
Hmm...odd...
It's hard to come up with threads about a system that they quit producing games for, over a decade ago. But I guess, it's a matter of "if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything"?
Well, sorry if it bugs you.

Well, I hope you don't feel an obligation to 'come up' with threads for the sake of the board. The best threads arise naturally when need exists.
For you maybe, but we've been kicking it here and coming up with new threads since 2004 (well at least a couple of us), and we still haven't run out of stuff to talk about. Golden Axe and Altered Beast are total garbage to me and while I think its because they haven't aged well but I'm not sure how. I don't know if its the visuals because Mega Bomberman looks probably worse than either one of those games and its still a hell of a lot of fun to this day. Maybe neither one of them 'did it' for me you could say.
KC is a fantastic game, as good to play today as it ever was for me IMO
Golden Axe i have to agree on, didn't like it that much when i played it as a kid though and nothings changed.
Altered Beast i still have a soft spot for to this day, have the sequel but have yet to get round to play it
Streets of Rage, i love...and always will. so many memories of me and my mates hammering this along with road rash
on to the topic of sonic, i can honestly say that its one of the few games i can play time and time again and still not get bored of it. i complete is around 4-5 times every year and enjoy it just as much as i did back then...nearly

As I've stated, Golden Axe and Altered Beast (at least the Genesis versions, I never played arcade) are bad. The Double Dragon arcade games were also bad (really sloppy controls, home versions were better) and I never cared for Splatterhouse 1 on PC Engine.
My name is GohanX. You killed my father, prepare to die.

Altered Beast is 2-Player, has unique power ups and boss fights, gore when most games were cartoony, and the foppish foot going for it. It's above par for the type of game it is.
I still don't understand why everyone keeps bashing Phantasy Star 3. Of course it's not on par with the other PS, but I still think it's a good RPG, despite its flaws (like nonexistant monster animations, broken tech system..). It sure has beautiful music and interesting stories of the generations.
Golden Axe too, it's still a very good game to play today. A bit easy, compared to the original, but play it with a friend and you'll have more fun than a lots of other beat'em ups.
Altered Beast it's bad. But it's fun anyway just to blast some zombies, it's the kind of game that you can play with a 10 minutes spare time, a no brainer, and still it's a VERY bad port of the original, gameplay speaking.
Maybe you should try those games with a friend if you didn't.
