Found a place online selling a bare TG16 in "good condition" and tested for $20. Soon I will have my modded system...

It's a shame that I got a bunch of games from ebay the other day with no system to run it on. Well, except the Turboexpress...

I hope this next unit goes well. It seems the Turbo Engine fanatics can't have enough followers.

Got the system today, and I don't know that I'd really consider it "good condition" since it had someone's initials and phone number scratched into it (not to mention it was nasty) but hey, it was $20, and it worked! It's kinda handy that I had the other defective system now so I could swap the case. I cleaned it up and threw on a little Armor All to help hide the sratches.

Just one picture since it's night and the lighting in my house sucks:

It works well, although I'm not sure I would recommend putting the AV jacks in that same spot, it's a little difficult to fit the jacks, mainboard, and a screw post right in that area. Guntz's spot is a lot easier. Region and RGB mods are coming...

Not a bad job so far GohanX! Indeed, the jacks are a lot harder to mount in that place. Besides, they will be obstructed if you put the dust cover back on the unit. Nice job nonetheless.

I just installed a BlueBMW mod chip. Buy this mans chips!

This isn't supposed to happen (Had to pull leg 29 to get Jap compatibility) Without doing this I only had a gray screen in Jap mode.

Who needs ugly RCA mods, when they can have an RCA attachment that's bigger than the G.D. system.

Nice clean install with proper wires. Well done.

Not sure why you pulled pin 29 of the 6280 to ground on a US system...

    Thanks.

Trust me Black is NOT the proper wire to use I couldn't see $#!+. But it was the only color I could get yesterday.

I had to pull 29. Without pulling it, I had no Jap compatibility.
I spent all day yesterday trying to figure that out.

I was always under the impression that it was not needed on a US system, but required to play US games on a PC Engine.

I don't know you people but I always felt that the PCE/TG-16 Pcb looked a lot more "hi-tech" than the SNES and Megadrive pcb's ,... so clean, very good built and nice looking system...

I beg to differ. I think the TG16 is a very poorly assembled machine. Due to the mobo being solder side up and the design of the shell, it's very hard to mount switches on the case.

Besides, something else I hate is when the motherboard is removed, the card slot can flop around freely, open to all sorts of stress damage. Not to mention, the RF shielding is soldered onto the board, not screwed.

Thanks for making the TG16 a total bitch to work with, NEC... Even Nintendo never made such a retardedly designed system.

*If* that's the I/O pin for region detection, and this is a US system, then you shouldn't need to change it for any reason. *Only* US hucard titles check the region bit in the I/O port. Japanese hucard titles don't.

The PC Engine is much easier to disassemble and work on, AND the PCB is way more consolidated.

I don't know what to say.
I installed BlueBMW's region chip in my US system. US games loaded fine, JAP games gave me a grey screen. Rechecked all the wiring & even installed a different chip & got the same results.

All said and done I installed & uninstalled two chips 6 times. It only worked when I lifted & grounded pin 29 on the HuC6280.

But that's just it, that pin is already set for the US system. You're not supposed to touch that pin on the US systems. If you *have* lift the pin and connect it to ground, then that points to something's seriously wrong with the system/setup. All it does is result in a single bit showing as set or clear in the BYTE read I/O port. Japanese soft NEVER looks for this. Never checks it. Only US hucard titles do. So that makes no sense at all. It stands to logic that if the US cards were working fine when this pin was left alone, then it means it was functioning fine to begin with. Assuming you didn't get confused along the lines somewhere between which hucards you were testing it, then I'd be worried with your mod if I were you >_>
