    yeah... i always recall hearing to no seeming end at all about the GiTS movie in my teen years back in the 90's there, and about how "Cerebral" it allegedly was, and all that good wholesome stuff.
    i'll just have to buck it up and sit myself down to it one of the days, and hopefully get myself something of an idea of why it was so widely regarded as the Cat's total Ass back then.

    i mean, i appreciate Cyberpunk to a certain measured degree, and find BLADE RUNNER quite the masterpiece in it's own right, as many have for a very long time now,
    but there just was something about what i always managed to perceive from Ads of the GiTS movie, and it's overall visual style, that just never could seem to ever rock my world.

    then again, i never was much of a Masamune Shirow/distopian future fan, always preferring the more optimistic future visions so expertly rendered by the STAR TREK series.

    to each their own though, i suppose...

    I'm the third one here who has it on Laserdisc and haven't watched it yet, though I bought the game to the Playstation last week and it's completely awesome.

    They talk about that in the movie at one point. She has a "full prosthesis" body, which means that she should have a fragment of her brain in there somewhere, theoretically to anchor her "ghost" to the shell, but other than that piece of brain matter, she's all machine. So cyber vs robot depends on home many organic parts you require - if any at all, she's a cyborg.

    The Ghost in the Shell move had some great animation and action, but overall I felt it came off as too pretentious. The part with the rain and other imagery with the droning music in the background is a good example. That should have been left on the cutting room floor. The "stand alone complex" series was much more entertaining IMO. It's funny, other than his drawing, I never really like the manga much. Other people seem to do shirow better than shirow does.

    I guess Ghost in the Shell might not be as highly-regarded as I wd have expected, but IMO it's a masterpiece. One of my favorite movies ever.

    At times it is a bit "cerebral" maybe, in that sometimes it has great atmosphere, or emotional weight, or it's thought-provoking, or whatever. Another way to say it is that there's not tons of action all the time, and it can be a quiet movie at times, and it seems deep. Personally I love it, but it's not for everyone.

    I never really watched the series much bc it didn't seem to have the same depth or seriousness... The tiny bits I saw seemed more funny or action-packed, just generally geared more for mass appeal, which must have been inevitable for a series based on such a deep movie...

    Ah well, give the movie a shot when you're in the mood for a long, thought-provoking vision of dystopia.

    ...

    Also here's a shot of the only anime series I put the time into following, when it was aired on Adult Swim for 4 nights a week. (Musta been 2003, '04, thereabouts.) I followed it for so many months, only to watch it restart without finishing. lol

    The movie is a bit anti-climactic. I do recall that. I also remember it being beautifully animated.

    i've had the game since it first came out. being based on the Manga version of the story, it appears to have a completely different overall to the movie...

    yep, good series with a good concept, but they DID rather manage to beat that horse till it was quite dead indeed, then continue to beat the living S%&t out of it for a good long while after.

    safe to say i think that that was one of those odd Anime series that managed to become way too popular for it's own good...

    I think this is the main reason I don't hold this movie in higher regard. It does seem deep, but to me it comes off more of a caution sign next to a kiddy pool than something greater hidden under a veil.

    just picked this up for $34.00;

    i've already modded my SUPER NINTENDO to accept my copy of ASSAULT SUITS VALKEN, so i'm good to go there.
    watching a YOUTUBE playthrough of the first stage, this seems a very nice and enjoyable 2P CO-OP capable SHMUP.
    me and my sister enjoy 2P CO-OPs, but we don't have all that many CO-OP capable games.
    as such, this game seems taylor made to help fill that gap, so we should have quite a ball with it...

    -oh, and i might as well contribute to the thread with some TwinBee related art while i'm on that kick. had to really dig deep to find some of this;

    Congratulations! I hear "Pop'n Twinbee" is a pretty good game. And that's surely a lot of pictures of Pastel that I've never seen before!

    when looking for Anime/Japanese VG related images, it often pays off to find the name of whatever series/character/etc.
    you are looking for spelled out in japanese characters;

    * "TwinBee" = ツインビー
    * "Pastel & WinBee" = パステル&ウインビー

    and this is usually easily found on the WIKIPEDIA entry on the subject that's usually your first or second hit on PAGE 1, upon GOOGLEing the name of the subject material that you are after,
    copy and pasting the name in japanese and GOOGLEing that.

    this generally results in far more returns than GOOGLEing the same names in english, especially for older/obscure stuff.

    the japanese continue to take their fan geekery far more seriously then most of the world does, and that very much includes fandom based in the internet...

    Thanks for the info!

    By the way, I might have to get myself a copy of the Japan version of "Arrow Flash" just like the one you got, as the box art is a lot better. There are some others also like El Viento, Alisia Dragoon, and Gaiares, where the Japan box art looks way better as well.
