^You guys are saying it might be impossible on highest difficulty. Is it possible to beat on normal difficulty???
Yeah it's pretty easy on normal. The difficulty bump from normal to hard is way to much. Your attacks do way less damage on hard and it gets really monotonous. Obviously very hard is even worse. On the harder difficulties you have to make all your attacks count because the clock will expire if you don't do the max damage possible.

Definitely. I just haven't ever played with one that is competent.

    cowboyscowboys,
Do you know how the difficulty of this port compares to the arcade original?

I don't. I will just say I usually prefer console ports of arcade games because there difficulty is more balanced. Just can't replicate the feeling of actually having to pump quarters in to keep playing.

Thanks for the feedback, cowboyscowboys. I usually prefer the ports for the same reason.
I just asked that in order to know if the apparently brutal difficulty setting is something that can be found in the original version and/or if you guys think it should be balanced out somehow - without hurting the increase of challenge that it should provide.

I like ports because usually they're like the "2nd draft". With better, more responsive controls, and cleaned up gameplay.

Altered Beast for example. Graphics & music may be a little better but, your character is clunky as all hell! Input delays that screw up your reaction time, slow moving animations & recovery time when you are attacking, jumping feels weird, etc. If you get surrounded with enemies, you're just screwed, and you will be eating a LOT of hits.

The Genesis version is like night & day. I can usually handle hordes of enemies with no problem at all. Two crudes Dudes is another example of controls being better on the home port. I'm sure there are others.
