You're right, those are some pretty good ports. UMK3 could count too (I think it was ported by them and Avalanche Software, or maybe it was just by Avalanche. Sculptured still appears in the copyrights)
Bastardcat: We're thankful Capcom didn't farm it out to them instead.

The Punisher is a great game on the arcade and a very poor port on Genesis. I have an Everdrive MD, a good set of controllers, a good hi-fi stereo, a good CRT TV and all I can say is that this port looks, sounds and plays very generic, really poor!
By the time of its release, there were no more excuses for such bad graphics... Even Mystical Fighter has better graphics, more effects and much better soundtrack, and I'm talking about a bizarre 1991 game that has many flaws! C'mon!
Sculptured Software did a great job on MK3/UMK3 and WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game; but we don't know if the developers were the same working here... The idea of companies doing something is a bit wrong IMO. It's much more about the developer team. Sonic Team vs AM2 vs... There are many differences...
Anyway, Genesis's The Punisher is a poor generic lackluster game, with some small dull characters on screen... There are much more better games on the system in this genre, so I don't care about this one.

The first time I played this I was thinking it must have been ported directly from the NES(graphically speaking). I also didn't like the control options and the timer can go off too fast forcing you to have to you use your super move and bombs too much.
I don't know why you people are saying Capcom would've done a better job. Look at there questionable ports of the SF series on the Genesis. Then compare those ports to the Sega reprogrammed ports of Capcom games. Back then it was clear who Capcom gave a rat's ass about and it wasn't Sega.
I'm surprised at all the hate this game is getting. Just because the arcade version is better doesn't mean this version sucks. If there was no arcade version and only the Genesis it would be considered a better game. Is it really fair to compare a console game to an arcade? You would think since it's 20x the size it has a lot more power and potential.
So much wrong on your statements...
1)This game sucks for being what it is, nothing to deal with being an arcade port or not.
2)If there was no arcade version this game would still have 8-bit looking graphics, generic sfx, poor soundtrack, small ridiculous characters and generic gameplay.
3)Do you know what arcade machine we are talking about? Little modified CPS1!!! Let's take a look:
Main CPU : 68000 @ 10 MHz
Sound CPU : Z80 @ 6 MHz
Sound Chips : Q Sound @ 4 MHz
Res : 384 x 224
Not that powerful, right? MK3 and WWF Wrestlemania Arcade came from much more powerful machines and stand soooo much better compared to their original arcade versions.
4)Strider came from the same machine (minus Q-Sound - who cares?) and looks, sound, plays 100x better than your beloved generic Punished game. And it was in 1990!
Not to talk about Final Fight CD...
After all, where is the lovely bloody gore and furious punishment job feeling of the original game?
5)Thinking or reading before randomly start saying fanboy shit would help you to look less pathetic.

I totally disagree with this unobvious opinion. Maybe you need glasses because Mystical Fighter has a bad playability
(slow and monotonous, lack of variety enemies and weapons both), average graphics (hurting colors), soundtracks are poor,
sound effects are awful, and there are no digital voices. Mystical Fighter had never given me pleasure than Punisher did.
I can't believe these words...
Dudes : try another hobby like collecting nutz. Thank for not playing Genesis games anymore.
There is no SNES punisher.
You can shoot, throw grenades, pummel with your fists, cut, throw weapons, etc. If that isn't punishment, I don't know what is.
A note: Just because you suck at the game doesn't mean it's bad.
I just can't see the blood... Maybe it's due the 8-bit looking graphics, or the pocket-like characters or just because it's censored... But maybe you never noticed that 'cause you always played censored games by your great freedom defender final justicier country.
Just because YOU suck doesn't mean the game is good.
You do not know the difference between bad and good, so it's almost impossible to discuss anything.
If you think that an ugly bad sounding repetitive very watered down uninspired port is a great game... Well, maybe you'll have a heart attack playing SOR 2 or something.
This game sucks, so it's for suckers! Enjoy, it's just perfect for ya!

I would like to NOT read such insanity and silly things from a Sega-16 Genesis member community. You seem pretentious and haughty.
As I am conscientious, I replayed the arcade version of Punisher to see the differences.
Yes indeed, the arcade one has better graphics but is this a surprising thing ? Certainly not.
I noted the miss of 1 enemy and 1 weapon. Genesis version Players could easily recognize the Genesis soundtracks.
The levels are 90 % the same, only VERY SMALL portions or destructible items disappeared.
The enemies moves are more detailed and fluid on the arcade version.
Very convinving arguments...
Yes we are silly people and inferior to you, blablabla.
I know very well SOR 2 like many other Genesis fans. Please stop making us lessons of gaming. And being vulgar.
