Just heard of this device, what do you guys think of it? I think its kinda pointless since its purpose is to just show off as well there being much cheaper ways to record gameplay and put it to youtube with still pretty good quality.

Hard to say, I don't see an s-video jack, unless I just didn't notice it. What I would be interested in is how well the editing program works, because almost everything I used by Roxio in the past gave me problems. It is cheaper, that's for sure. But if you plan on doing a lot, and I mean a lot of video game reviews, maybe the more expensive models would probably be the best way to go, but that's up to you.![]()
That was a crappy review. What format does it capture in? Probably MPEG 4 (h.264). That sucks because that is not a format that lends itself well to editing since every recorded frame is not truly discrete unto itself. He also only tested it with a modern console. Does it work with 240p resolutions? What the hell is 460p? There is no such resolution. This guy must be off of his rocker. I'll check out this Haaupapage HD PVR thingy, but I bet it records in some shitty MPEG/h.264 flavor as well.
Huh, I didn't think you were talking about a specific capture card, just the practice of recording footage from real hardware. If it was the latter, I'd say doing so gives you a much bigger e-peen, which always matters on the internets.
Where did he voice concern over that? I must have missed that episode. But it is indeed a problem for the retro gaming video community.
I have a Hauppauge HD PVR. The quality on it is unbelievably amazing! You can record in component, s-video, or composite.
I bought a Hauppauge HD PVR and it didn't work. I bought it because I had had good experiences with their mpeg 2 cards. I found out after the fact that a huge percentage of them are defective. At least I was able to return it to the online store I bought it from for most of my money back.
