    Default Rate my MD collection

There's a few in there that aren't great, as I just picked up a job-lot (mainly so I can re-use the cases, I'll probably chuck a few dupes a friend's way), but what do you think of my collection? I'm going for personal favorites and generally the best games on the system (that aren't expensive - I think all of these titles are under £5)

    http://www.retrocollect.com/search/s...earch&rows=100

Any noticable absences? I also have Midnight Resistance, which doesn't show up in the database (as it's genesis only). The Nomad is my main system, so it's slightly geared towards that kind of pick-up-and-play style.

    Things I can think of:
    Streets of Rage II
It's a little light on shooters, but since I have a large number of PCE titles, I'm well covered on that system (I have no Thunderforce titles though)
Desert/Jungle strike (not sure how I feel about these titles)
Cannon Fodder, which I preferred on the Amiga TBH

Any other games that would supplement my collection?

You're Aiming for "best on the system", yet there's no Streets of Rage 2 or 3, no Gunstar Heroes, no Contra: Hard Corps, and no Phantasy Star? Instead you got Bubsy the Bobcat, Arch Rivals, Ariel the Mermaid, Fantasia or World Cup Italia '90, which are neither good nor all that uncommon (well, Ariel might be, but it's definitely not a good game... )

So what exactly are you going for? I guess you're not big on RPGs (given the complete lack of that specific genre), but what about Jump'n'Runs? Or Run'n'Guns? What about general platformers, or sports games? If you could tell us a bit about your preferences, it would make it easier to give you a few suggestions.

Otherwise, all I can say about that collection is... meh... it's a start, but you could do better, even if you don't want to spend all that much.

"there's no Streets of Rage 2 or 3, no Gunstar Heroes, no Contra: Hard Corps"

Three of which are ridiculously expensive, are they not? I added that in my caveat, along with missing Streets of Rage 2.

And I'd fully agree that Bubsy the Bobcat, Arch Rivals, Ariel the Mermaid, Fantasia or World Cup Italia '90 are probably not very good (probably, because despite owning Arch Rivals for about 15 years, I've never even played it) but all of those I've aquired as part of budles of games. But I don't know whether I'd be prepared to just get rid of them. Dunno.

And I absolutely despise Phantasy Star II, I thought it was a massive waste of time all those years ago, so I've tended to steer away from MD RPGs... I know it's probably just me, but yeah.

I'd also love Castlevania if it weren't so expensive, but there are very few games I'd consider spending ~£10 on.

Well, it's kinda tough to make suggestions for "good but inexpensive", since people tend to hold on to their good games and therefor they won't be traded away that often, so they fetch higher prices.

Sonic 3 should be available in your intended price range. Should you find Comix Zone for under 10, I'd suggest getting it as well.
A personal favorite of mine that's rather rare but should be cheaper than 10 pound (at least I got it for 7 or so) is Second Samurai.

If you like Ecco the dolphin then you should also get Ecco II, if not then give it a pass.

If you like Soccer games get Sensible Soccer, I think that one's aged better than any of the FIFA-games.

Cool Spot is also a pretty decent game that should be available for cheap. Don't pick up "Spot goes to Hollywood" by mistake, though.

Shooter-wise Thunderforce III and IV are definitely worth getting.

And sorry if I came off too harsh, I only wanted to express how big the "best for the system/games for cheap" divergence can get (also, you wanted people to "Rate your MD collection", so... yeah). Still, If you could give some more specific preferences about what you like and what not, it would be easier to give you a few suggestions.

Also, Anyone who was wise enough to get Speedball II ranks high in my opinion! (now don't you DARE say it's not good ).

Oh yeah, I remember Second Samurai, that's an inspired choice
Sonic 3, comix Zone, Cool Spot, Thunderforce III and IV are now on my list. Not a fan of Cannon Fodder, but I may get it anyway, I've heard good things about it.

And Speedball 2, definitely! Got it recently (for the GBA too!) when to my dismay, I found that my one remaining Amiga refused to play Pang, The Newzealand Story, or Speedball

    Thanks for the suggestions

Do you only buy games CIB? Or are cartridges fine as well? I've got extra Genesis carts for Sonic 3, Streets of Rage 3, and Aero the Acrobat 2 if you're interested.

hmmm... To be honest, I'd prefer boxed, just because it's a pain to store them (in an attractive way) otherwise. But if it's a case of a massive price-gap I'd be interested. Unfortunately I'm a real cheap-ass though!

oh yeah, a Must have (especially if you like Platformers) is Earthworm Jim, I think this should also be within your intended price range.

Good point... I could have sworn I played it recently. Maybe I actually have it somewhere...

    yeh man....lookin good so far!

youre DEFINITELY missing ghouls and ghosts

dragons fury also is a good game which ticks the "other" box in terms of changing up the genre when you need "something else"

i have a absolutely MINT CIB copy if youre interested in it!!

Arrghhh!!! My lengthy reply was just wiped out!

*sigh*, in brief: already have G&G for the Supergrafx, but would consider for portability
Have Devil Crush for the PC Engine, and often take it out with my GT
Mint condition games would probably be appreciated more by true collectors (I just want a box and a cart )
Have Shadow dancer in my bag and will likely be playing it on the bus in 30 minutes!

Not a big collection and therefore it can't contain every good title, but you got some nice titles such as Mercs, Rocket Knight, Alisia Dragoon, Golden Axe, Rambo 3 and some more. A good start indeed!
