I still see no reason to buy a 3DS.
I still see no reason to buy a 3DS.
I agree, a new Starfox game would be much better than some N64-ported shit. Same with Zelda.
I have a 3DS and don't regret it mainly because I am an early adopter, but I also agree that there really isn't any reason to own a 3DS.
The 3D makes me feel like I have my head stuck in one of those machines at the DMV that tests your depth perception. It's the same headache.
I borrowed and played Ocarina of Time for a few hours the other day and wrote off the whole platform. It's a piss poor experience for this generation. The touch screen and cameras are still pretty bad and almost feel disposable. Tacked on or not, it's like they're still using some old DS/DSlite hardware which is worse than smartphones from 3-4 years ago. Nintendo could probably dig up better touchscreen hardware in a Chinese landfill, I certainly hope they do with the Wii U pad. The UI is a clunky mess. This is the first Nintendo product that actually felt like a cheap toy to me when I was using it.
All that aside, it is a toy for kids/teens for the most part and I understand why they're recycling the classics. I just see nothing I personally want for it and all my hopes are with Sony's PSVita... Otherwise, I'm probably done with the handhelds.
What? Aren't Zelda 3DS and Starfox 3DS the only N64 ports on the 3DS? That's like when people saying that the DS was going to become a portable N64 even though only about 5 or so N64 games were ever ported to the system.
In terms of library, there isn't much out on it now which is why I'm holding off, but the price drop looks tempting, and I'm looking forward to the new Paper Mario, maybe the new Kid Icarus, Luigi's Mansion 2 and Super Mario 3D Land, which I think shows some potential. I like how Super Mario 3D Land looks and seems to play like the 2D Mario games, but with 3D levels and movement. It seems like a fresh way to bring the 2D series into 3D instead of rehashing Super Mario 64's formula over and over again.
Hardly. 3D isn't a method of control, it's just a visual enhancement, much like HD is (though the former obviously having different effects on different people), so you're comparing apples and oranges here. 3D games without 3D still control the same, whereas motion controlled games without motion controls are controlled differently, so I don't think that's an apt analogy.
Saying it's pointless to play 3DS games without 3D is like saying it's pointless to play PS3 and 360 games if you only have an SDTV, even if it meant missing out on the entire generation of games you couldn't play on any other system.
I actually disagree with most of the people posting in this thread. I bought the 3DS at launch, and I love it despite the severe lack of games. I'm also pretty stoked about the StarFox 64 remake. Sure, I'd like to see a new game in the series, but the past three StarFox games have all been disappointments on some level, so for the time being I'll settle for a game that will honestly be pretty hard to mess up.
The weird thing is that, even though I don't agree with the negative points posted in here, I understand where you're all coming from. There really isn't much reason to buy the 3DS right now. A couple of high-profile N64 remakes make for a pretty poor software library. I'm curious to see if and how opinions will change once the REAL games start coming out.
The 3DS is a good example of Nintendo's overall philosophy: innovate with hardware, refine with software. It's a formula that's brought them a lot of success, but frankly, I find their software pretty stale as a result. They've milked the same IPs for decades, and introduced more iterations of similar games than any other company.
Even though people bag on Sega, I think their software lineup even to this day is more diverse and daring, with less remaking/refining of games and more new IP/game styles.
I regret nothing, also I work for Mr. Smith.
Do not misunderstand either, I like StarFox 64 (I don't particularly enjoy the 5fps original), it's the 3D remake I find stupid. It's an admission that they can no longer make a good one.
And yes the video is super funny, their pokemon in real life videos are really funny too.
I've gotta say I'm pretty psyched for Starfox 64 3D, looking forward to see how it comes out on the 3DS, even though I probably won't be getting a 3DS system for a while.
Guess what bro. Owning a 360 without an hdtv is pointless. I had a 360 and was playing enchant arms and could even read any of the damn text. Went and bought an hdtv and havent looked back sense. This is now my 5th hd tv.Saying it's pointless to play 3DS games without 3D is like saying it's pointless to play PS3 and 360 games if you only have an SDTV, even if it meant missing out on the entire generation of games you couldn't play on any other system.
I have an old SDTV kicking around for videogames in one of my house's spare rooms, and it regularly gets use specifically for an Xbox 360. It's certainly not optimal, but far from pointless. Same for the 3DS comparison. Without 3D enabled, the graphics are still a step up from the previous generation of handhelds.
