    Shakespeare Scart to HDMI Setup

    Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a scart to hdmi converter because scart to component doesn't work on any of my monitors, but I have heard there are some that I should avoid?

What are your opinions on this model?

I heard there might be some problems with stretching the image or not allowing you to change the aspect ratio?

    Cheers.

There's a couple of these that allow you to switch the aspect between wide or full screen. Unfortunately I can't seem to find them anymore :/

I ordered one of these recently and it works fine with my Master System, Genesis 1/32X and X'Eye SCART cables, but loses sync with my Saturn for some reason. It only does 720p as far as I know, yours might turn out better. Finally if I use the "Natural" setting the image fills the screen with the X'eye output and I still think the aspect ratio looks fine. The TV's info bar says 4:3.

Sheath, does the original screen size stay with this device? Also, that didn't happen to be you who wrote that review for this product, was it?

No, I didn't write the review for this. The aspect ratio stays 4:3 with this device, but if I use my TVs "Full" option it very nearly fills the screen without overscan issues.

    -edit-

I should be more clear. My Toshiba LCD set defaults to "4:3 HD" when I use this HDMI upconverter, but when I set it to "Native" it nearly fills the screen. I would assume that means that the screen would be stretched by default. I have a widescreen TV though, and don't find the stretching to make anything look too wide.

I ordered the same one some time back. the only issue i have is that i can sometimes see lines in the sprites, almost like the device cant keep up with the processing. could be my tv though. i've only used it on my dreamcast and model1/2 genesis. the dreamcast is a bit worse.

    *the same one as sheath.

I see very faint horizontal lines in the backgrounds on my Master System, X'Eye and Genesis 1 32X combo. My Saturn just blanks out the TV, but someone told me to pick up Japanese RGB SCART cables to fix that. I'm currently waiting on an S-Video to Component adapter instead.

I had the one linked in the ebay auction in the original post. It did not do RGB, only composite. It also had a protected HDMI signal, meaning I could not record it. Back it went.

I've been thinking of picking one of these up since the Scart to Component converter didn't work on any of the 5 tvs I tried it on. The only thing that bothers me about this HDMI converter is converting the Genesis to 720p. Won't that look terrible? I'm thinking it won't be as bad if I tried it with my N64 or my Sega Saturn, which I haven't bought yet.
