i got yet another model 1 MD the other day. . . .

is there any "replacements" that i can use that are from common everyday things i might have laying about?

i read on here that the MD will take a power supply thats "variable" from the standard, issued one - is this true?

if so...then theres probably a few power packs i can use for it laying around my house

There's a good universal one you can get from Maplins, but like every universal PSU, the connectors are pretty loose.

However, The MD is ... I can't remember whether it's 12 or 9 V, but I had a problem with my old one causing a static sound through the TV, so that one wnt to my PC Engine, and now I use the universal one. I think the Megadrive is slightly fussier than some, in that if it's not getting within a smidgin of what it needs it throws up problems, and sometimes it's better to go a little over.

I can't remember exactly what it's called but I think it was about £7 and it's easy to find. ( I think the post recommending it was on here, the problem was) Actually, that was just before the forum got wiped

I bought a couple of those lately because I had a 9V adapter that heated like hell.
Look for "mega drive power supply" in ebay, I'm pretty sure you'll find it. Prices are around £9.

I'm holding out for a MD1 without license screen. Most sellers don't mention it and probably wouldn't to the states anyway.
