Default Good 2D or isometric or FMV or fake-3D (ray casting) games to play on PSOne

    Hi!

I got a fully modded/unlocked PSOne some days ago. It's working like a charm.
I just hate 3D (polygonal/textured) games, so I want suggestions for 2D or FMV or isometric or ray casting games like some early FPS.

I have already like 100 2D games here but its game library is so vast that I'm certainly missing lots of stuff yet. Mainly the US-only releases, 'cause I have made a long research about the Japanese exclusive 2D titles.

Someone talked about Project Overkill in other thread and I just didn't know about it, so I realized that you guys could help me to discover more 2D games for this little white box.

Feel free to make your suggestion and any comments about the games are welcome.

Ohh man the ps1 has so much.

    Megan X4 5 6
    Growlancer ( Japanese exclusive )
    Langrisser 1 & 2 collection and then 4 and 5
Internal Sector ( its 3d but its a tunnel shooter like sewer sharks )
    Legend of Mana
Saga Frontier 1 and 2 ( 2 being vastly more visually pleasing )
Tales of Phantasia remake ( Japanese exclusive )
    Tales of Destiny
Tales of Eternia ( Called tales of destiny 2 in america )
    Suikoden 1 & 2
    silhouette mirage
    Lunar 1 and 2
    Arc the lad 1 2 3
    Alundra
    Street Fighter Alpha Series
SNK neo geo ports ( Last blade has anew intro and extra characters, it does however have a ridiculous amount of animation cuts to reduce loads )

Shrugs thats all I can name just off the top of my head

Baldur's gate was almost on the PSX. There was a near(if not completely) finished version that never got released. I suspect the Jrpg zombies wouldn't have given in a proper chance though. So maybe it is for the best.

Tombi; pretty expensive though. Also the Pandemonium games, the Loaded series (Loaded and ReLoaded) and maybe, Command & Conquer-style games, such as KKND, Dune and of course, C&C.

Just remembered: Casper; uses the same game engine as Blood Omen. Kinda decent game, too.

I'll begin by seconding Panzer Bandit (brawler with mechs) and Loaded (overhead gunner like Smash TV and Gauntlet--either which you can really make it resemble if you're bold enough to play it w/o a memory card). Reloaded is quite different, but may be more in line with your requests. Pandemoniums too. Oddworld 1; I'd say snub the sequel. Suikoden 1 and 2 are amongst the best RPGs ever.
Azure Dreams is a superb dungeon crawler w/ random mapping.
Blood Omen Legacy of Kain is a cream of the crop Action RPG, wholly drawn unlike its polygonal descendants.
I always champion Machine Hunter, a simple Genesis like overhead gunner that plays uncommonly well 2P (Loaded does not: acceptably at best).
Project Overkill is another nasty gunner, isometric, whose quality seems to be pretty good for the opening few levels I played through once way back when and once earlier this year before forgetting it (blood bores me now); essentially a 16 bit game with higher resolution; isometric angle flaws are circumvented by using transparencies on near walls.
The first Crash Bandicoot is worth a play. Functionally 2D; very few problematic camera angles, if any (extra depth for its otherwise 16bit isometric areas). Ignore the % rating as you play, it can't be completed under 100%.
QuickSciFi recently played through all the Mickey Mania versions and determined the PS1's the best. I think the same goes for EWJ2 and Novastorm.
Gex appeals to many people. Likewise Castlevania SotN and the abundant Megaman games.
Umihara Kawase Shun is an excellent platformer that should require no Japanese.
FFVII ought to be given a chance: ignore the wimps who avoided it in fear it'd make them cry, along with the clockbreakers' boasts--just play it breezily w/o trying to collect everything on the planet and you can have some fun. Or if you want to really see the machine's muscle FFVIII is astonishingly polished.
Shmups = Raystorm and Raycrisis (can be got on 1 disk), Cotton something (not '100%', that's an SNES transport), Soukyugurentai, Night Raid (awesomely fast bullet hell), Thunderforce V (like III, no platforming as in IV), Strikers I & II, In the Hunt, Raiden Project (best ports), Raiden DX, Darius Gaiden. (If you want to take a random shot just skim Kollision's list via the link in his sig). That I've not played at all are the famous Donpachi, DoDonPachi, R Type Delta, and Einhander (Square returning to its roots), and the little known Extra Bright (polygons). Jupiter Strike somewhat resembles Galaxy Force II; 2 disks.
An odd but charming ARPG is Guardian's Crusade.
Wipeout must be played however much it defies your request categories.
Heart of Darkness (platformer--looks childish but not moreso than half the MD catalogue).
The Asukas are amusing 2D fighters.
    Klonoa's a solid platformer.
Elemental Gearbolt is a fantastic lightgun game. The PS has easily the most of this genre (recently covered here: I know how you love your searches).
    Metal Slug X.
Gunner's Heaven (similar to Gunstar Heroes but perhaps less dull). --Evidently easier to find under the title Rapid Reload.
3D playing games to give a chance are Rayman, Jumping Flash and Tenchu (2 each).
{{ Skullmonkeys, Punky Skunk, and Rapid Angel would be 3 2D platformers to avoid }}.
I'm also going to throw in Fox Hunt, an FMV game, because nobody else will.
    That's it, tapped for now.
edit: add Hermie Hopperhead. Solid platformer. Disregard the title and his appearance if you can.
    >>> also Herc's Adventures, vaguely like Beyond Oasis; supports 2P.

The game was leaked though, so you can play it through.

Too bad it is an overrated, unoriginal, tedious, ugly piece of crap. Buying it for PC was a waste of money. Bioware did not start making decent RPGs before Planescape Torment.

Yes, I am a JRPG zombie.
