    I still don't understand what you're complaining about. Are you mad that someone was willing to pay more than you were, or that the price YOU were paying went up because someone unsuccessfully tried to outbid you? In either case, it doesn't sound like you have any reason to be upset. That's how eBay auctions work.

    At the core what kills some auctions is just morons with more money than sense who are willing to pay far above the normal going price. True, people bidding their max amount early on may not help matters, but when enough people bid over the normal market value it will influence other bidders to pay more than they would like and by the same token sellers will jack the price up.

    "The way it works is that ebay will allow you to rebid on something if you enter an accidental amount. there is a time limit, but if your fast enough you can log on as another account and bid a high max bid, check the current bid price, then change your max bid to just below the last price. Even if the seller times out they don't have anything to lose and only positive feedback to gain. Ebay really needs to nix this bid reneging shit."

    There's actually a way to do it without having to overtake the max bidder. The way the bids increase is actually an indicator of how much the top bid is. If you make the bid something uneven, eventually when you're about to overtake the max bid it'll change the bids back to the even amount. For example, the max bid is $20 even. The current bid is $10.00, you bid $11.33, and bid every time up to $19.33. Once you get to that point, instead of asking for a $20.33 bid it'll ask for a $20 or more bid. This isn't completely foolproof but it seems to work quite a bit. I use it since I never like to bid over the top bidder until the last few seconds, it's just a good way to gauge the auction and prevent a bidding war.

    I remember there was this CIB Musha going for $80 on an auction on a 6 day wait, while there was another one complete for $135 as BIN. As the auction was ending, someone bidded $165 at the last 7 seconds. Now why did you spend $30 more for something you could have had right away rather than waiting 6 days just to pay more? There was nothing different with the auction one, both were mint and complete.

    Of course, that is stupid. However, it's probably just someone who gets himself too caught up in the excitement of the auction, and then bids more than the item is worth. I've been there myself a few times, and have learned since then how to prevent that from happening. Nevertheless, it can still happen to others, and it can indeed ruin an otherwise perfect auction. But that's how auctions work, and that's what you're going to have to live with.

    Best advice. This is the proper way of bidding, wait until the veery last seconds and bid.

    Exactly. The days of time set on most auctions (I always go with 7 days personally) are more for advertisement, so people have enough opportunity to see your auction and become interested. All the real action happens in the last hour.

    For nearly all of my non-BIN purchases, I wind up using Auction Sniper to put my bid in about 3 seconds before the end. Been using it for years and always have liked it. It's not free, but it keeps me from getting in bidding wars.

    I tried snipe bidding and it rarely works. I don't know what it is, But I always end up losing the auction.
    I am starting to doubt these things, and I don't recommend em.

    @MrMatthews
    I am offended because most people raise the price that is not much better than the BIN price. Maybe, say 5 dollar difference. Big whoop.
