So people on eBay are morons because they're willing to bid more money than you are?

Putting up a sudden high bid is basic strategy in any auction. It weeds out all the lightweights hoping to get lucky with cheap bids, leaving only those who are willing to fight for the item. The problem is that people get the timing wrong. Jumpstart the price too early and you'll start an unnecessary bidding war, and get trampled in a stampede of competitive overpaying. Bide your time until the auction's about to close, and choose a generous amount--because if the bids have stayed low until then, ten other people will have the same idea.

    Thumbs down

This is what pisses me off most about ebay

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/READ-DESCRIP...item19c97b2294

I had caught that auction and thought that I could get a steal until this happened:

    Member Id: h***e ( 114Feedback score is 100 to 499) US $83.01
    Oct-06-11 17:36:33 PDT

    Member Id: e***r ( 1063Feedback score is 1000 to 4,999) US $82.01
    Oct-13-11 01:10:18 PDT

    Member Id: a***k ( 366Feedback score is 100 to 499) US $79.99
    Oct-12-11 22:16:24 PDT

    Member Id: a***t ( 332Feedback score is 100 to 499) US $24.00
    Oct-12-11 14:54:14 PDT

    Member Id: l***l ( 86Feedback score is 50 to 99) US $23.00
    Oct-11-11 12:49:04 PDT

    Member Id: a***t ( 332Feedback score is 100 to 499) US $15.50
    Oct-07-11 11:28:16 PDT

    Starting Price US $15.00
    Oct-06-11 17:19:06 PDT

Somebody decided to jump the bid from 24.00 to 79.99 like a jackass would. So something that could've been had for 50 or 60 dollars will no go over 100 because of this jackass.

He's willing to pay that much for the thing, for reasons of his own.
There's nothing wrong with that, honestly.

eBay buyers who make large highest offer bids aren't stupid, you're just upset because you didn't get a rare game at a bargain price. If someone is willing to pay more than you, you lose. That is how auctions work. It's not supposed to be about who can bid fastest at the last second but rather setting a fair price for the item being sold. I have won auctions by bidding the highest amount I'm willing to pay and it's foiled snipers who made lowball bids trying to beat my max at the last second and underestimating what it is. I've actually gotten really good deals this way. Sometimes I can't access the Internet when the auction is going to end so I just put up what I'm willing to pay and if someone wants to pay more, good for them.

Of course there are also dishonest sellers who have other people bid up their items for them, though this can backfire if the bids go too high and the real bidders lose interest.

I mostly stick to BIN deals now. That way the seller is also getting what they want and everybody is happy. To be honest much of the time BIN stuff is cheaper than some of the auctions for the same stuff. A lot of people also forget about eBay's partner Half.com which often has incredible deals.

There was nothing different with the auction one, both were mint and complete.
Yeah, this is kind of odd. I always look around for BINs to see what my absolute ceiling is before bidding; I guess other people get carried away.

I am fully aware how ebay works and that guy that shot up the bid is still a jackass. And you can call me a cheap selfish prick IDGAF.

This whole thread reeks of sour grapes. The risk of losing is part of the fun, people!

After you posted that auction in this thread I was like, "Hey that's cool, I'd pay a fair amount for a nice box for my working CDX" and put a watch on it. I just checked back now and it's like $213!!

Haha, cool find but too rich for my blood. I'm not sure how the laser stopped working on it though, it looks like he's got the original power adapter and everything too.

Like MrMatthews said, half the fun of eBay is the risk. Sometimes you get a steal on something, sometimes you pay your max, and sometimes you just loose. Life's too short to worry about missing an item on eBay, because I can guarantee that it (or something like it) will show up again eventually.

I do this all the time to get rid of the poor and the gamblers. Let's say a CIB game X was going for $5, now to me that's not even a normal price for a loose cart where I'm from, so I might go as high as $20 on this even if the game wasn't really worth that much in the country where it was being auctioned. This is usually the case with foreign collectors that have shitload of money and are willing to pay the premium if the said item is not available in their country or the prices are much higher. I can understand how this might piss of local collectors hoping to find some cheap items, but public auction is a public auction.

I've noticed that worldwide items do go for more. The Chrono Trigger cart I had for sale a while ago is currently on it's way to Finland.

I don't think people who bid on Ebay are morons, I think people who sell on Ebay are morons. Not all of them obviously, but there are some really stupid ones. I always hate when a seller puts "video game" in the title of the auction as if it isn't obvious. Also I hate it when sellers think taking a picture is too much work. In less the item is brand new, stock photos should not be allowed.
