    Default Riot City/Zone

Which game is better ? The arcade version (Riot City) or the Turbo Duo port (Riot Zone) Why was the arcade version not released on Genesis/Mega Drive ?

I would say that the Arcade game is probably better, it certainly has better graphics. The Turbo DUO adaptation is kind of bland looking and lacking animation. They aren't exactly the same game, the levels are similar but not identical. I'm not certain, but I think Riot City had an extra move or two as well.

I don't know why Riot City didn't get a Genesis adaptation, it might have had something to do with Westone and Hudson.

The Turbo game looks and feels unfinished. I played the arcade a few times before the Turbo version, but wasn't impressed by it on its own. Westone was as much a Hudson Soft developer as a Sega team. Likely Sega wasn't eager to give SoR some competition or figured that it wouldn't be any at all and wasn't worth bringing home. Meanwhile the PC Engine was severely lacking beat 'em ups.

Speaking of Riot Zone, I have to say it's pretty underrated. Now, I won't say it's an excellent game or anything, but it's definitely not bad. The worst insults that can be thrown around about it are that it's derivative, that it's bland, and that it's by the numbers. While these complaints do hold merit, I think it belies the nature of the game to write off the entire game based off these complaints alone, especially when you look at the full library of games on the Turbo Duo. Outside of stuff like Renegade or Double Dragon II, The beat 'em up genre was pretty lacking on NEC's console, and Riot Zone filled the Final Fight/Streets of Rage void nicely. I feel like it's a game where people should look at it being a rip-off of a couple of superior games as a compliment, not necessarily a detriment.

In any case, I enjoyed it and played it when I first got my Duo.
    A retarded Sonic.

It's 1 player only aka a pathetic fail. No excuses I think it came out 92 or 93?
