I made this list a while back but don't think I ever posted it anywhere... this thread seems like a fine place for it though. Tell me if there are any errors.

Turbografx/PC Engine games require a TurboTap multitap for any simultaneous multiplayer modes -- the system has only one controller port. The multitap supports up to five players.

Any of the Bomberman and either of the Dungeon Explorer games are as good as games get and they all support up to five players at once. I'd rather play one amazing game than several average ones. The classic Bomberman games are pretty much the best same-room multiplayer video game experience of all time. Even if you've had your fill of Mega Bomberman, I find Bomberman '93 much better for battle mode.

Motoroader is a lot of fun with 3+ people and Motoroder II is supposed to also be fun.

Black Falcon: Metamor Jupitor supports 2(+) players through a trick/cheat. So does Forgotten Worlds.

Alright, I'll edit that into the list then. How does it work? I mean, why hide the multiplayer modes...

Now that I think about it though, I have actually heard about Forgotten Worlds' multiplayer mode. P2 controls the drone, right? So how does Metamor Jupiter's work, and how do you access it?

Bomberman is infinitely fun and its worth having a Duo/Turbo, tap and controllers to play some 5 player Bomberman.

That said, overall, I stand behind my assertion that the TG isn't a great multiplayer platform. As with any system that needs extra peripherals to perform a function, developers won't emphasize something that doesn't come stock with a system, knowing not all gamers will buy said peripherals. The TG has a few great multiplayer games, but I'd say it's better to have a system with a lot of great multiplayer games.

    Edit:
A good example is the N64. It was the first system to have 4 controller ports built in. As a result, a lot of good 4 player games came out for it. It wasn't a great platform overall, but it was a great multiplayer platform IMHO.

You can mod the tap itself pretty easily, you just need a cable from a PCE controller, rewire the harness (piece of cake for you) and replace the cable in the tap. I did the opposite on my TG16, I put a TG16 controller cable on the white PCE Tap so I can use all of my PCE/Duo controllers on the TG16. Avenue 3 and 6 pads on the US system, weee!

BTW, I like the name "Turbo Engine". It sounds cooler than Turbo Grafx or PC Engine

Rewire the harness? What do you mean, the plugs use different orders of wires?

What drew me to the TG16 is it's extra controller port, reaching an unusually awesome total of 5 players simultaneous. The pickings are disappointingly slim, but for now Battle Lode Runner and Moto Roader will definitely help round out the party selection on the system.

Ok, so it's relatively simple? How many pins do the PC Engine controller plugs use? (8 pin Mini-DIN?) If it's a common number, I won't need to destroy a PC-Engine controller, I can just buy a plug and some cabling. I suppose a couple of pinouts is all I need...

I won't do a mod like that unless I buy a Turbo/Engine Duo though, for right now my TG16 works fine.

Guntz, if you're thinking about buying the CD add-on, you should consider getting a Duo or Duo-R, rather than the Turbografx CD, because the TG-CD is really prone to breakdowns. There's this little gear that chips teeth, and very few have found a replacement for that gear. No need to worry about the gear in a Duo or Duo-R though!

Although, if you buy the original Duo, there's a 90% chance you'll have to recap it, but the Duo-R's have more reliable caps in them. It's your choice.

Yeah, taps are wired differently than controllers. you just have to pull the wires out of the little harness and put them back in a different order. i'd link the directions but i'm posting from a 3ds!

You couldn't just buy a TurboTap and a DuoTap, open both up, and swap the cables? I've opened up my TurboTap before, it's just plugged in inside.

Yeah, if you have the money, a Duo-R or Duo-RX are definitely the way to go... and remember that CD games are all region free, so you can play US CD games on a JP system. Duo-R or RXes aren't cheap, but then, nor are Turbo CD drives (with the base unit, etc)., and those are more likely to break down on you in ways that aren't really fixable.

I've never played Battle Lode Runner but hear good things about it. I used to love Dungeon Explorer; it's a great multiplayer game. The TG is a great system in general as it has a lot of exclusive, quirky little games, including some great shooters. Blazing Lazers remains one of my favorite vertical shmups to this day. I miss my TG; I used to have a pretty robust collection

Another drawback to the separate CD unit is that you also have to get the Super System Card to run all the games (and the card by itself fetched a few hundred bucks last I checked).

Blackfalcon: sure, swapping tap cables would work fine, but I didn't have a US Turbotap, but I did have a spare Turbopad cable!
