Thread: Ebay SCART to Component adaptor.

  1. #1

Default Ebay SCART to Component adaptor.

Anyone have experience with one of these? It looks like a knock off of the CYS-2100, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-game...item564103693c I am thinking about picking one up and using SCART cables to hook up my Genesis, SNES, Saturn, and PCE if I ever get one.

I own this one. Works great. There's some audio buzzing but it might just be my cables/setup - it's a rat's nest back there and I'm sure there's interference. Just realize that this one doesn't output the audio portion of the SCART cable. That's fine if you're hooking up your Genesis with the headphone jack or something, but otherwise you'll need an audio breakout plug to separate the audio from the SCART cable before it enters the converter. That's what I do.

I run Saturn, Genesis/32x/CD, PSX, and PS2 over it, no complaints really.

With the PS2 I can get a component cable, so thats not a a issue. I will get the sound from the output of my Sega CD.

Thanks, I think I will place a order tonight for one.

Also do you run a SCART switch for your systems? Like http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hama-SCART-S...#ht_596wt_1396 ?

I have it and it works perfectly. Get it. I use a 3-way scart switcher with RCA out for audio as well.

It's really good. Just note this is the most basic type available. For better or worse. Turns RGB directly into component. It will not pass go or collect $200.

PS2 component looks like 100% shit compared to RGB. I know they're supposed to be similar but I tried two cables and then I tried a SCART. So much more bright and colorful, it was awesome.

I've been trying to find a good SCART switch; I'll check that one out. Right now I do it manually, blah. Anyone know of a good one that takes 4 inputs? I have the Gen+Sat+Ps1+Ps2.

I own this one as well, it works great on my SDTV with Component inputs but on my LCD it loses video sync too often for games to be playable.

Yes, with this converter any game that uses sync for effects you'll get some nasty shaking. It's not really bad but if you're playing SFIII Third Strike for instance and do a heavy throw, the screen will flicker a little bit instead of 'shake' like it's supposed to.

I must be the only one who had problems. I had it on my TV and it was worse than composite. Hell it was garbage. I than tried it on 5 LCD Tvs and 1 CRT TV and it didn't work. I returned it saying it was broken, but the guy didn't believe me and has likely sold it to someone else. I'd rather try a different adaptor.

My screen was going completely black and then checking back in. I'm not sure if it is the adapter or just some kind of incompatibility. Sometimes my screen goes black with the HTPC and 360 as well, but so rarely that I cannot troubleshoot.

This box doesn't cause sync issues, it's the TV's inability to adapt to 240p signals well. I think SF3 3rd Strike is a 240p game but I think you can make it run in 480i.

Four audio you need to mod this box for systems like SNES, Saturn, Genesis 2, etc which have the audio go through the video cable. If you have a model 1 Genesis you just run the sound from the headphone jack to the audio inputs on your TV or stereo.

Yeah it's ONLY a transcoder. 240p in, will be 240p out. Same goes for 50 or 60 hz. So it cannot do things like make an NTSC tube accept PAL sync rate.

Since we are on this topic, what do we think about the sub $20 RGB splitters on ebay? I'm afraid splitters will degrade the signal.
