Watch your back, shoot straight, and never cut a deal with the dragon. (from Shadowrun)
Shining in the Darkness is the only game of the Shining series that I own, although I guess people consider it separate from the Shining Force games. Anyways, I can't be interested to dungeon-crawl for very long. Once in a while I fire it up, walk thru the town, wander the dungeons for 10 min., and then put it back to gather dust. I really might never play thru this one.
So far the Lunar games have not been appealing to me bc the voice acting is so bad, although I might think otherwise someday when I try them again.
Oh and it's not much of a secret but I dislike Sonic 3 and consider it the low-point of the whole series, but thankfully S&K finished off the series good. But Sonic 3 has the only stages I really dislike from the whole series: Carnival Night especially, plus Launch Base...
Actually for years before I found this site, I just assumed almost everyone disliked Sonic 3 as well, just like Sonic Spinball is pretty universally disliked...

Chrono Trigger is a splendid showcase of what the JRPG can do, but it is slightly overrated for me personally. Granted, I was VERY LIKELY the first person in my city to buy the original SNES game and paid around $90 for it on the day of its release so my expectations were understandably inflated. Still, I used it an example to show noobs into the JRPG world, only later on going "Whoa, now. Let's not get carried away with it."
Same thing happened when I first read the The Time Traveller's Wife. Read it in the first few months it came out, thought it was "nice" and recommended it to people, then it gained hype and became some huge monster "chick novel" and I'm like, "Whoa, let's not get carried away now..."
There's something to be said for that feeling of being the first guy to see something before it gets overhyped.

When I played through Chrono Trigger in 2005, I actually knew nothing about any of the hype, so my expectations were nil. I'd randomly downloaded it in 2002 or so, and I remember firing it up at the time and thinking to myself "Hmmm, this seems promising but pretty involved -- I'll wait."
Once I did play it, I was completely engrossed and frankly blown away -- though I think a good bit of that was the music, which I found incredibly haunting and atmospheric (and which for me is still the gold standard among RPGs). Even so, it's one of the only RPGs that's ever completely sucked me in, along with Secret of Mana, Earthbound Zero, and one or two others. It basically took over my life (or at least my spare time) for about a week.
The music is really good in CT, but I remember being slightly disappointed in it coming off playing FF VI. It's not that it's technically bad at all, it's just that the cheery, bouncy tunes in CT seemed more in line with most SNES RPGs (and games in general) I played at the time, whereas FF IV and VI's highly melodramatic soundtrack was something I could never forget. I don't think Nobuo Uematsu ever did make it out of the 16 bit era intact, he was never as good as he was in FF IV and FF VI ever again.
Really, what is the problem with turn based RPGs and random encounters? I have a hard time with this, as what few RPGs I have played through and enjoyed were all random encounter type games. For me it is almost worse when the enemies are visible because I obsess about killing every last one of them even when they aren't worth the effort.

Im playing grandia 2 in my dreamcast with pirate cds u_u
too old for video games huh?
I never beat any Sonic Games without cheating
I've never beaten Streets of Rage 1 or 3. I can beat Streets of Rage 2 on one sitting on Normal and Hard, and can make it to most of level 8 in Hardest. SOR1 kicks my ass like no other, mainly because the controls are kind of clunky and because no matter what, the enemies always seem to get a couple of free hits at you, and even if you mash the attack button, you remain stun locked. SOR3 just kicks my ass plain and simple.
I once played through Breath of Fire 3 on PS1 almost all the way to the end and then stopped. Same with Final Fantasy IX back in the day. Got almost to the ending of disc 4 before fighting Tiamat and then stopped. I seem to do this with a lot of games, I start them, play a little with them and then lose interest completely overnight. Last game that I did this with was Phantasy Star Portable 2 on PSP, but I got legitimately bored of the repetitive combat. It's a great game I admit, but gets old kinda fast.
At one point in time I was so super duper good with SOR2 that I could beat it on Mania and still have 2 lives left,
these days my hands got rusty and I can't even beat SOR1 anymore![]()
