the gameboy player is definately the ultimate nintendo add on. the question is, what type of games do you like to play? that might make it easier to recommend some good titles. also if the gamecube controller isn't cutting it, there are several controller options available to use with the gameboy player.

the first option would be a gameboy advance link cable with the original gameboy advance system:

second option would be a snes to wii adaptor that uses the gamecube port, you can then use snes controllers on your gamecube:

and the third option, but the most expensive is the very hard to find gameboy player controller made by hori:

considering they have been out of production for a few years now, the price has gone up alot on these. on ebay they usually go for about $50-75 and on amazon their going anywhere from $89-129

it would be alot cheaper to either go with a original gba with link cable or a snes to wii/gamecube adaptor with snes controller, both work about as well as the hori controller.

Without looking at what has already been recommended I'd say the following are worth it.

    GBA:
    Double Dragon
    Gunstar Super Heroes
Altered Beast Guardian of the Realms
    Astro Boy
    TMNT

I used to have a collect-em list for this add-on but lost interest several years ago.

This thread is fun, but isn't it basically just a Gameboy game recommendation thread? The subject is being broached in an odd manner. :$

    My personal recommendations:

    Original Gameboy:
Mega Man I - V (skip II, though)
    Bionic Commando
    Operation C
    Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
    Mole Mania
    Metroid II
    Mario's Picross

    Gameboy Color:
    Warlocked (amazingly playable RTS)
    Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel
    Super Mario DX

    Gameboy Advace:
    Advance Wars
    Mario Vs Donkey Kong
    Mario & Luigi
    Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
    Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

And kudos to everyone who mentioned using the GBA to play on the Gameboy Player. I hate the GameCube controller's D-pad, and I've never thought of hooking up a GBA to the system. I'm going to give the credit to QuickScifi.

Pelican also release a SNES style controller for the GBP, but it's kind of crap. Beats nothing though. That SNES to Wii adapter looks awesome. I'm definitely going to have to get one of those.

I've actually seen those GBA to GCN adapter cables at GW or SA (can't remember for sure which one) and passed because I don't have a GBA and figured it was for porting data or something. Doh...
    It is finished!

    @MrMatthews and tz101:

I find that rather strange. I've known about the ins and outs of the Game Boy Player for so long, it's almost like second nature to me now. I was pretty big on GameCube a couple years after launch. How does anybody not know about using the GBA as a controller for the GB Player?

I would give my firstborn (that I don't have) for a GC component cable!

I guess we're just not as smart as you are.

@Waterfaller: The biggest irritation about the GC component cable is the port itself is serial... The cable plug contains the DAC encoder, which explains why these cables were expensive at retail (now they are expensive due to low supply and astronomically high demand). Because of that technicality, one cannot simply makeshift their own cable. Nor could they just add component RCA jacks to their own GameCube.

At least S-Video is still pretty good. It may not have the same color fidelity as component, but the crystal clear picture is a huge plus! (bad Nintendo S-Video cables exist mind you, stay away from the ones that have both composite and S-Video!)

This has nothing to do with smarts... Just knowledge. I thought the Game Boy Player was relatively common knowledge. Did you know you can download Game Boy software from compatible GC games to a Game Boy Player? Here, I'll give you an example.

GameCube no. 1 > Nintendo Puzzle Collection > GC to GBA cable > Game Boy Player on Game Cube no. 2

I thought that was pretty amusing myself. There's lots of weird and cool things you can do with GBA hardware once you have enough of it.

You know what's great on the Gameboy Player? Metroid Fusion! Now there's a game that was mean to be played on the big screen!
