    Default Gex and Croc

Does anyone have any memories of these games ? I never got to play Croc and Im kicking myself because it got good reviews and at the time I was a huge Crash & Spyro fan. I may pick up Croc 1 & 2 if they are worth it since they are probably cheap. Gex, I know the first game was 2d and a 3DO port but I read the N64 ports werent very good.

I like the Croc games a lot, but the 3d Gex games I don't like so much... but yeah, Croc's great fun, in my opinion. Both games are good.

I only liked the first Gex. The other two just weren't very fun, although they did have pretty solid engines. I enjoyed Croc quite a bit, but Croc 2 was only decent.

I loved Gex! Gex was an extremely fun platformer, and the games were EXTREMELY well written. I loved it. Wish I could play them today.

Gex the 2D platformer is a good game. Croc is also a good 3D platformer on the Saturn or PS1. I haven't finished any of them though, they just seem to urk me rather than keep me hooked.

Shame on me, I haven't played Gex on my 3DO yet. I just haven't been in a platformer mood in the longest. Been giving my Neo too much love.

I haven't played Croc on PSX but on Saturn the controls make it a little testy to do the jumps, but overall it's a fun game and sort of a rare breed (3d platformer in the vein of Spyro) on the Saturn.

Own all the Gex and Croc games. The only one I'd really recommend is Gex 1 - the 3DO version particularly (because you can save your game instead of using passwords). The 3D games in the series weren't very good.

Croc is alright - it's the closest the Saturn got to something like Mario 64. But it's not really that great. Croc 2 on the PSX is better, but not by much.

I was actually playing Gex on my 3DO last night. Very fun platformer. High quality, too. Looks sort of like Donkey Kong Country with a similar difficulty level.

Having a general notion what you like and loathing Gex myself I feel obliged to recommend it. If you're of the get what you pay for mentality Croc should suffice--possibly outperform expectations as it may be much cheaper on the PS than the Saturn. I'd describe it as closer to Spyro than to anything of the N64 mould outside the simplest parts of Mario 64, not at all like Conker or Kazooie. On a different 3D note Jumping Flash is nifty.
If you've interest in a structured 3D platformer I'd suggest the Pandemoniums and if you've a Saturn to a lesser extent the Bugs. But those are my tastes, not dart throws at yours.

If you're absolutely dying for a solid 3D platformer on the saturn, look for Burning Rangers. It's got one of the most solid 3D engines on the saturn, and it's probably the closest the system ever comes to a modern 3D platformer/action title. It's a little dated, but, assuming you're still one to play his saturn, you'd probably be able to appreciate what it's doing.

If you were to come up with a top 10 list of 3D platformers on PSOne, would Croc and Croc 2 be in the top 10 ? I only really bothered with the Crash and Spyro games so I dont know what else is out there.

This is a blurred distinction. Crash 1 is definitely 2.5D, or had I to choose, 2D rather than 3D; the others incline more to 3D, but if you're including the 1st Crash and games like it I'd say absolutely not for Croc. Soul Reaver's way up there but seeing as you're only a casual gamer now it might be too deep. Its platforming is also secondary but does come up (Mario 64 doesn't have many strict platforms either; his flight almost changes many parts into fps gaming). Croc you may well find endearingly thin. Counting games like Crash 1 I certainly would include at least either of the Pandemoniums if not both--they're very simple and old school with successful employment of 32 bit capabilities and charming presentation--and Klonoa which along with its PS2 sequel gets expensive.
For what else is out there: some people like Glover (it makes me puke, but hey), Jersey Devil has some style and is worth a glance, and you might like the Tomba! games which are both fairly traditional 2D play despite the latter's graphics. These like Spyro and CB are all cute.

Yes I am counting Crash as 3D even though its techinically not. You didnt mention MediEvil and I thought it was considering a high quality platformer at the time.
