I had tons of these things before I got a Gameboy. The Gameboy was a godsend.

IMO, though, the Gameboy Advance is the ultimate pinnacle of non-touch-screen portables.
I couldn't have said it better.

The GBA SP is, but I didn't care for the launch model because of my past history with the GBC.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

As far as games go, I like them

As far as hardware goes, they never did it right until the GBA SP. Having no back lighting of any kind "to save batteries" made it hard to see the screen. GG and Lynx may have chewed up electricity but you could at least see the games without having to plug in a light accessory or sit under a lamp. This is also one reason I won't own a Neo Geo Pocket Color, another nice handheld basically cut short by no proper screen light. Yes, I know there are mod kits but they cost a fortune.

I had a Gameboy brick back in the day and played it constantly, but I had played very little of the library since I spent most of my extremely limited money on Genesis and SNES games at the time. Once I got a Game Gear I never looked back until fairly recently.

These days, i keep my GB brick in the coveted position on my coffee table, as I actually play it pretty frequently now. Although it's huge by modern standards, it fits my adult hands very well, and is probably the most comfortable out of all of my handhelds. It doesn't hurt that it has a backlight, so I can actually see the damn thing now. I also picked up a lot of cheap loose games, so there is a ton of stuff I haven't played on it.

For the record, my coffee table I keep the Gameboy, NGPC, and a PSP 3000, everything else is in storage. Except the 3DS, it's ALWAYS on the damn charger.

I've been able to fit it into the front pockets of any tight-fitting pants with decent sized pockets (ie average blue jeans and cargo pants -but not most dress/uniform type pants/slacks) at the very least since I was in my early teens. (though I could have sworn I managed to cram it into some jeans I had when I was 10 or 11)

It's a lot bigger than the GBP for sure, but still less than 1/2 the size of the Lynx II or GG (and perhaps Turbo Express -at least in terms of overall volume).

The brick model is the one I've used the most by far, and that original (used) system I got back ~1996 still works fine too, as does my brother's brick GB. (though it's worse for the ware with a broken battery cover)

The louder speaker and (mainly) outstanding battery life were major factors in my preference for the brick over the GBP after I bought the latter later on. (it was pretty disappointing at the time . . . and the better screen and smaller size didn't nearly make up for those flaws -especially since the small size meant smaller/poorer buttons and d-pad -much more of a problem for me today than as a kid, and the small size of the GBP also makes it more cramped to hold with my larger hands too -one reason I don't like the SP either, though the GBC makes a better compromise at least)

    Edit:
actually, I just checked, and I can fit my GB into my BACK pocket of my jeans and cargo pants (again, definitely not loose), granted I'm tall (6'3" -and the pants are 32W, 34L) so they're still fairly large pants too. (albeit fairly slim still)
I certainly wouldn't sit down with it in my back pocket (for comfort and -more so- fear of damaging the system), but it fits entirely in the pocket (a bulge, but nothing sticking out).

In a (otherwise empty) front pocket of my jeans or cargo pants (same size as above), I can easily fit the whole GB in with a couple inches to spare at the top. (though it obviously makes a sizeable bulge still).
Actually I can fit both a GBP/GBC/GBA and a brick GB in my front pockets at the same time. (not even that tight of a fit -though also not really comfortable)

    Also, measurements:
    -GB:
    5 3/4" tall
    3 1/2" wide
    1 1/4" thick

    -GBP:
    4 7/8" tall
    3" wide
    7/8" thick

    -GBC:
    5 1/4" tall
    3 1/16" wide
1" thick (at the battery bluge -but 7/8" elsewhere)

    -GBA(non-SP):
    3 1/8" tall
    5 5/8" wide
    15/16" thick

You deserve mad rep for posting this pic. Such a rush of memories, and nostalgia rushed over me when I seen that.
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

I've still got a Street Fighter 2 Tiger LCD game in my drawer. I haven't played it since i was like 15, I'm not sure why I still have it but none of the other Tiger LCD games I had back in the day.
