Akumajou Dracula and its many remakes

Okay, so thanks to the "CV IV is overrated" thread I've got interested in the series again and there's one thing that boggles my mind is that how many games about exactly the same Simon Belmont's adventure were made.

Akumajou Dracula/Vampire Killer - MSX
Akumajou Dracula/Castlevania - NES
Akumajou Dracula/Haunted Castle - Arcades
Akumajou Dracula/Super Castlevania IV - SNES
Akumajou Dracula/Castlevania Chronicles - Sharp x68000/PS1

While the first three could be explained by "the same game, different platforms" phenomenon of the 80's where the ports of the same game to different platforms could be very different games at all, the last two of these are both remakes of NES Castlevania made by different internal Konami teams.

So, which one of those two is better as the remake? Which one of them is canon? Which one is better game overall?

Akumajou Dracula is the better remake. Super Castlevania IV is the better game.

Haunted Castle has to be the worst Castlevania. It just looks so terrible. I'm not really impressed with Akumajou Dracula either or the remake from what Ive seen. I still would buy Castlevania Chronicles if it were cheap but of course its not.
