So again, no one is arguing against what super specific case you are trying to make about performance.

People need to do a better job of clarifying themselves instead of making a baseless statement that can only be recognized in one way.

No you're correct it was never officially used, but the PSX nickname came to be in the days before the release of the Playstation,
maybe it was a code name used by Sony, maybe it was thought up by a Sony representative who felt the X was XTREME!
but fact remains that PSX was used in the early days, and people who were there used it, and still use it.

And that's the whole point of this discussion, why do people use it? well because we used it back then, so we use it now.

It was never official no, but it was a widely used nickname by magazines.

Why else do you think that one PS magazine called itself P.S.X. ?

Why else did you think the emulator called itself ePSXe ?

And that's the problem I got with this subject, some people are pretending the whole PSX nickname was never a big deal, while it was.

And it wasn't just a Euro thing either, they called it PSX in Gamepro and EGM.

    Here's how I consider it:

PS1 = Original grey console and games for it
PSOne = The redesigned tiny version with the large power adapter
PSX = Interchangeable with PS1 for the most part, but there was actually hardware from Sony called the PSX which was actually a PS2 DVR functionality.

The term PSX should have been retired when the PS2 came out, and it really should have been retired when Sony made other hardware with that name.
Not to make any beef with you man, I know you've already been quoted, but I don't remember anybody calling it in person anything but the Playstation. The abbreviation PS was only for writing and PSX I seldom saw, though it did predate the (US) launch and its story as a codeword rings a bell. There was no need to call it either a PSX or PSOne after the launch till the brewings of the PS2.

I suspect Sony's marketing section did imagine there might be a usable semiotic element to 'PSX' , ie the 'sex' sound (recall eg that Toshinden advert with Sofia) but that it was just eventually dropped so Sony brass wouldn't have to wobbly explain what the X meant--saying "it demonstrates how hip we are" is a statement that undoes itself.

I really hate calling it PS1. There was no "1" in the name. Nobody called it that until 2000. Even when the Playstation 2 was first announced, many assumed it was just a code name. I don't think Sony has ever used the numeral 1 in regards to the system. Just Playstation, and then PS One when that version of the system came out.

I think the only way to satisfy everyone would be to abbreviate it as "PS".

But in my opinion, it's a "POS".

How so? Because you hate Sony? The dpad? Regardless, it's a brillant system with a great back catalogue of games. Don't like the dpad? Get an adapter or 3rd party pad. Hate Sony? It's a games machine, ignore who made it and enjoy the games.

Perhaps if there were more 2D games for it, I could appreciate it more, and one of these days I may try to pick up that Saturn style pad for it.

Playstation/PSX/PSOne is my favorite console of all time. Lack of quality 2D games doesnt bother me since I was more than ready for the change from 2D to 3D.

That makes sense, I would like it better if they call it Playstation, or PSone. I mean calling it PS, is like P.S. letter thing!

P.S. Mr.Smith, your guts is STILL mine! As a orange werewolf, I should rip out your guts the most painful way that you'll ever imagine! I guarantee this will happen one day!

    P.S. I'll be back!

The 2D games it does have are pretty damn good though.

Yeah, but I don't play 3D games. I was only 9 years old when I got an N64, and less than a year later I disconnected it and hooked up my Genesis again.

True, but most of them are available on the Saturn.

Everybody in this group had better give Eddie rep right now or face the consequences.

I don't understand why you'd feel that way, the PSX had an enormous selection of amazing games,
there were 3D fighters for fans of that genre, there were a boatload of sweet 3D racers for fans of those,
there were lots of ports of 2D arcade fighters, a shitload of sweet RPG's, there were even FPS shooters!
and.. the sweet 2D and 3D Disney games.

Playstation 1 was like the Genesis and Snes had a baby and it had 32bit power and CD storage.

Edit : wait I see you're talking lovingly about the Saturn, that explains your hate for the PSX. (brand loyalty lol)
